What exhaust mod is this?

I think there is pipe connecting between right and left sides of the muffler

Looks like that piece was welded into the exhaust in the axle-back portion, and removing the cap bypasses the canister. Poor man's race exhaust.

It actually sounds really loud and aggressive with the caps off and just simply put them on if you want a quieter ride.

Wasn't sure if this was a common m3 mod or something totally custom

Yep, those are cutouts.

I would definitely recommend slapping on some electric cutouts since the works is already done. Run a controller to the drivers seat so you can change the sound with the flip of a switch.

Yes, and the sound it made was a big selling point for me as well.

He also had to put the caps on prior to getting it smogged for me out here in California. I knew all about the exhaust, the seller disclosed everything but didn't actually give me a name of what the exhaust mod was. We just both agreed that it sounded great
