Do you daily drive your m3
Recently picked up a 6mt e90 m3 with 33k miles and swore i would daily drive it but now im not so sure i should. My work commute probably averages me at around 15k miles a year not including weekend drives, early mornings i avoid traffic, but coming home i hit city traffic, I may also have to park in some bad areas unfortunatly. do i buy the winter wheel setup or a pos daily driver...
do you daily your m3 or is it a garage queen? Edit: I must say I do feel somewhat awkward as my car is the nicest one in the lot 95% of the time (not trying to brag) and my coworkers all make around the same money if not more than me but they mostly drive old beaters...priorities I guess anyone else feel this way Last edited by M3NACE90; 11-30-2015 at 04:37 PM.. |

Luckily I work from home 2 days a week so I end up only putting like 500-600 miles a month on it not crossing 10k a year. |

I used to daily my M3, but the miles/ depreciation, maintenance costs, and cost of gas added up. I felt it was a waste to daily drive my M3 since 5 days a week it was just sitting in traffic while costing me more money.
My commute is 25 miles each way... longer if if I decide to go the long way around traffic via toll road which just added to the mileage, gas, and cost of the tolls. Then I started commuting via combination of folding bike (Brompton) + commuter train. That save me about $400 to $500 in gas each month and I lost 30 lbs riding about 10 to 12 miles a day. The train however costed me $215 a month and the folding bike was close to $2000 (but that bike is so worth it) Now I ended up leasing an electric car for commuting. Got me a Chevy Spark EV at zero down and after federal and state tax incentives I am only paying $70 a month on it. My overall car insurance rate actually dropped by $10 ish dollars a year for my multi car policy. Also it is only costing me an extra $30 in electricity each month. So I have the M3 saved for actual fun weekends rather than forcing it to sit in traffic and I let my electric car take the commuter beatings. |

20 miles very little traffic long straights lots of turns, sweepers, elevation changes...basically one long race track to work (and back). Love this car

I DDed mine when I had it and DD my GT4 now except when we're going to somewhere with a known extremely steep driveway or when it's too cold/rainy for the Cup 2 tires to be safe, but we have the wife's car for the former and the latter is pretty unusual in Austin. It helps that I can work from home when I choose, and I also have a short commute even when I do go into the office. That said, if I lived in an area that had salt on the ground during the winter I'd probably rethink DDing a fun car after seeing what the undersides of cars in those areas look like after a few years. In fact I would have a hard time owning a car I liked while living in an area that got frequent snow because I'd have to decide between letting the salt rip it up or just letting it sit in the garage depreciating for a significant portion of the year every year.

I bought mine to enjoy so i drive it as much as possible. Still, i put only about 6000-8000 miles per year on it. It is my primary winter car. Have snow wheels. My turbo E36 M3 has over 600 rwhp so i put my other 6000-8000 miles per year on that car. Have snow wheels for it as well. I buy cars to drive not to park while i drive a beater.

I live a block from a metro station, gym, grocery store, etc. so I don't need to drive that much but it is my only car and my daily.

Preparing to tuck her away for the winter here in NJ. Delaying the process as long as I can. Outside of the winter up to this point, my total mileage this year was about 60/40 to the M over my civic. So it wins given that measure? However...I take the civic out more frequently while the M sits for as long as a week at a time before it gets out to stretch its legs.

I daily drive the shit out of mine. It's such an enjoyable car that I can't park it. I'm just shy of 130k miles and it's an 09 . I've never had trouble with it besides swapping battery and alternator once. I just recently did valve cover gaskets and rod bearings wpc treated and arp rod bolts ( all the bearings that came out still looked good except one was starting to show the copper layer) as well as spark plugs. The car is solid and will continue to do preventative maintenance to keep her without downtime. Next is driveline and suspension upgrades and bushings if needed . I thought of getting rid of it but there's really not a reason too .

I split time between my e36 M3 with 150,000 on the clock and the 2010 M3. As snow begins to fly here both M's will get very little use and the 4Runner will take on the snow duty.

I daily drive mine also. What's the point of putting it away? Anything else you drive to replace it will suck so bad. I don't regret driving mine every day. I friggen love it

I only commute 7 out of 10 days in a two week period. I drive the M3 unless there's a good chance of rain. We get flash floods here so the X5 does the transportation duty when it is rainy.

Every day, rain or shine. Daycare dropoff/pickup, work, heavy city traffic and 6MT. life's too short. I'm going to drive it as long as possible then get something else to fill its shoes and do it again.
