Default "D" (drive) mode?

So I noticed that in some of the videos I watched of other E92 M3's, when the driver puts the gear in "D" for drive it defaults to the normal/non-manual drive mode. When I put my car in "D", however, it defaults to full-manual mode. How can I change this? It's annoying to always shift right twice to get to the normal/non-manual mode. I've gone through my manual and have searched throughout these forums but still cannot find an answer! Was this coded by the previous owner to behave like so? I sure hope not.

Also, IIRC the car should always start with the same settings (i.e. EDC) as before before the car was powered off. However, even though I set EDC to comfort (no lights) and turn off the car the car starts with EDC set to normal (one light) the next time I start it up. Am I missing something here?

I am interested in getting a response to this too. I see how to change the mode for the M button but not the default for regular startup.

Yes! The settings to change the M Drive mode (button) is easily seen in the settings menu. Settings to change the default drive mode? Nowhere to be found...

When I had my DCT, I had to get a DCT program to default to D when putting into gear. I don't believe there's a setting you can set on your own.

The DCT program is a nice addition and does make a huge difference in how smoothly the car shifts...and improves shift times when in manual mode.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but what exactly is this DCT program that you speak of? Is this something that the dealer codes in to the vehicle?

He means having a DTC tune/ reprogram, much like an ECU tune, but for the transmissions ecu. Many of them have the option to default to D mode rather than M on startup, along with quicker shifts and such.

Yongj, the default DCT as per above (US cars default in S while Eu cars start in D2, needs coding).
Regarding default EDC (+power and shiftlight) this can be set to your start up preference in the "key menu". In Mdrive menu, either push iDrive one right or push option button which takes you to the key settings.

Cheers

Thank you for clarifying this for me. I'll be sure to give this a try tomorrow.

Does the Carly adapter/app allow you to edit that setting?

No, Carly does not allow you to set D as default.
