Clarity on BMW windshield protection program?

And yes, pun intended! Long story short, I bought the 5 yr BMW windshield protection plan (repair/replacement, per the brochure) for my F82. Of course, I got hit by a rock about two weeks ago and need a replacement. Scheduled the service with my dealer and was told that my BMW plan was repair only, not replacement. They said that BMW NA has changed their plans and offers repair only, not replacement, for all dealers across the US. Has anyone else heard or been told this?

I would say that if the contract you signed includes a replacement clause then they cannot change it after you have purchased the product. That is like them deciding the extended warranty doesn't cover a specific part after you had already purchased the coverage. I believe in legal terms that is referred to Ex Poste Facto.

I am typing this as we speak at a JN Phillips getting my windshield replaced. Here in MA most insurance policy covers this. I obtained an authentic BMW windshield replacement for a small 1" star crack.

This - check the contract terms to make sure they are the same as the brochure.

Thanks for the replies... a quick update. I just confirmed with BMW NA that they discontinued the 'replace' part of their windshield protection program, as of Jan '15. I bought my F82 in May '15 along with the windshield plan.

Apparently, dealer was unaware that BMW changed the plan. After several discussions today with dealer finance mgr, they are giving me a full refund for the windshield plan. So at least the dealer did the right thing. I also asked for a dealer quote for replacing the HUD enabled windshield... $1,345 parts/labor/tax, including new rain sensor. Ouch!

I just scheduled an OEM replacement next week with Safelite, I believe same place BMW dealers use. Same exact OEM glass (matching part number) with rain sensor... $609 total for parts/labor/tax.

I doubt safe lite will give you BMW windshield but please post back what ever the outcome.

I got this zurich windshield warranty. Like a dumb ass I thought
It would be a warranty to replace the windshield if needed. Its just a repair. Is it supposed to be placed on the windshield as prevention of cracks/chips or after damage?

Just picked up my F82 with the new replaced windshield. It is an OEM replacement. Part numbers match exact. My glass is the "green shade, HUD, Rain/Light sensor and Lane Departure" in Safelite part description verbiage. Pic with the "express toll" tag in the background is the 'before' cracked windshield.

Safelite did an excellent job. They had a hard time finding an M4 windshield in their ordering system. They accidentally ordered/attempted to install an M3 windshield, which if you are wondering, does not fit. It is about 1/2" too wide on each side. But they quickly found an M4 OEM windshield and still replaced it same day. They also replaced the rain sensor gel pack (not the actual sensor). So no need to have sensor reprogrammed by dealer.

They gave me a $100 discount on the glass for their confusion on M3 vs M4 glass. Total with parts, labor and tax was $603. Parts $490 and labor $70. As FYI, two local dealers quoted me $1,400 for the same job.

I am impressed. SL is good but not that good, usually. Did you have to pull some strings to get the OEM windshield or is what SL does by default on M4s, at least?

I don't think there exists an aftermarket windshield for these cars due to the specialty requirements (HUD, Rain Sensor, etc...). So we get lucky and the only available ones are OEM.

No strings. I just asked Safelite that I wanted OEM glass and they confirmed that it was.
