Good deal on this M3? Or wait till new M2 comes out?

I found a local M3, DCT, fully loaded with everything (comp, premium, upgraded audio), in silver, I think I can get it for $46,500. 2 years left on the factory warranty. It is a 2013 with 31k miles. Is this a fair price? There are a lot of M3's (E92 gen) for sale locally; they aren't moving, due to winter approaching most likely. Thoughts? What can I expect for depreciation on this car: $5k/year with normal 10k miles per year driving?

The other option is to save my $ and wait for the M2. Which is the better route?

46,500 - is that out the door price or taxes, ttl and registration on top of that?

It sounds like you care more about getting a good deal. Maybe you should first figure out what it is you are trying to accomplish and get the car that excels at that. Comparing an M2 to the E9x doesn't make sense.

Good price for the year and miles. Check for reprints. Is this from a dealer? CPO, extended warranty? OTD should be around $52

Why not? I am looking for a fun car to drive, and these likely both fit the bill. But the M2 is a year or more away, I can get an M3 and enjoy it now. M2 is likely a better car, I know it is slightly faster, lighter, more responsive. But the M3 is no slouch.

I donno if m2 is better can than e9x m3 but it is newer m car no doubt. Having said it i would go for m3 because m2 dont excite me. M3 is such a powerful and meaningful word than m2 for me at least. It was a dream car word when i was young.

Everything I've read on the M2 forum is that it will be heavy - weight almost 3,600 pounds and has 365 HP from / re-worked n55 motor. Doesn't sound like it be faster than the e92 M3.

Interesting? I am kinda in the same boat: a friend is selling his 2011 M3 E90, 6MT, less than 40k miles, and I know he is meticulous, the car is never tracked, et cetera. Was also thinking of a deposit on the M2, but his can be had for $37k.

Tough choice. The M2 tuned will likely see more power than a e92 M3. But it still won't rev like the e92 and will never sound as good. But you would have the rod bearings to worry about with the e92.

I'm in the exact same boat.

I would be equally happy with either car. The M2 new car warranty and maintenance is super convenient and there is no guessing on the condition.

The E92 M3 is a truly special car that can be had at a reasonable price even with an extended warranty. But the maintenance and gas will add to that....tough choice indeed.

My personal opinion:
- M2 if you plan to keep the car for many years
- E92 M3 if it is a short term car 2-4 years

Why worry? Also, how do you know there wont be something expensive failing on M2s after a few years?

e92 blown motor could cost $25K. M2 under warranty. That's all.

If you are so worried about the rod bearings then just replace them for like $2-3k.
