GoPro Mounting
So, I'm heading to the Dragon this weekend and want to get some good GoPro footage of the drive. I had an idea and wanted to see if anyone has done this. I bought 4 small bar clamps and a piece of plexiglass to mount on my collapsed wind screen. I figured that would give me a solid place to mount it that will show both the road and interior. When I mounted it outside of the car the wind noise was rediculous. Any thoughts or other suggestions?

A headrest mount would be ideal but the convertible only has one large post that the seatbelt is integrated into and not the two.
Not sure I follow the wind screen mount idea. I'll have to look at options tonight. Post what you ultimately come up with though. |

Right... forgot about that. Do the backseats have headrests? That would probably be too far.

Moon roofs work well too. When I got my first go pro I tested it out on the moon roof of my X5, that's about the only use that moon roof ever got as I never opened it. Love the head rest mount.

The glass idea is great. But if you want to use your deflector too I think the inner passenger window is a good location. I had to play around with some extra extensions to get the right angle but it came out pretty well.

Did your gopro come with the completely enclosed acrylic case? Because when I used it on the outside, it kept wind noise to a minimum.
Otherwise, I'm looking at using the tow hook mounts from Burger when I get to the dragon next spring.

I have a headrest mount similar to the one posted above.
This one: http://www.amazon.com/Tackform-Solut.../dp/B00MTWKY2Q It does make the video kind of shaky, as seen in the video below which was the first (and only) time I have used this mount, so I may have mounted it too loose. Fast forward toward the end to see how shaky it is. I used the YouTube fix that smooths the video out, which killed the quality, but it's not as bad anymore.

I got this one after speaking with the supplier.
He recommended this one because it has less shake. I was somewhat confused as it had only one attachment to the headrest but it's solid! It's metal not plastic and I guess that makes all the difference. http://www.amazon.com/GoPro-Headrest...W4GXTEGCZ5HT4M |

One of them only attaches to one of the headrest mount legs. The other (your one) attaches to both. I originally wanted your one (as I thought it would be more stable than the other that just attaches to one leg) but after speaking to the guy and telling him what I was doing with it (namely track days), he suggested the one I got. In the end he sent me both. I checked them both out and decided to keep the one I have as it seemed more solid in build. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. |
