Cheap differential service kits @ ECSTuning
Nope, not affiliated with ECS Tuning in any way shape or for, except that they are my go to company for anything related to BMW due to their good prices and fast shipping. They've gotten several thousand dollars out of me over the years, and I recommend them to anyone.
I had a ton of maintenance items added to my wishlist, and upon looking through there to buy an oil service kit I had added a month or two ago, I noticed the Castrol differential service kit which used to be roughly $90.00 or so is currently listed for $12.34. Includes 3 bottles of Castrol differential oil (which I believe does not have FM Booster, someone correct me if I am wrong), a drain plug and fill plug. I thought it had to be a mistake, but I ordered it as I plan to do my differential service and DCT service as soon as I take the car out of storage in the Spring. Not sure if it's a sale or not, but I couldn't pass up a good deal. I am pretty sure it was $85+ less than a week ago. Jump on this deal while you can. Hell, or a couple at that price https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E90-M3...Kit/ES2602524/

Read the DIY on changing diff fluid and the FM booster is listed somewhere in there. For this price I would try it without unless you know you have a problem. I used the kit listed in this post and I have zero noise coming from the rear end.

I paid $72 for the same kit a month ago so I'm sure it's an error in their system.

Still a great price. I've been using the Redline 75w140 in my differential for going on 6-7 months now and it's been great (as far as I can tell). No noises and at the time, was much cheaper than the Castrol.
With that price though, jump on it if you can. It's an easy DIY.

Yep. Price has changed. Guess I got lucky. Someone messed up pretty bad at ECS Tuning.
As for wanting the FM Booster fluid, it is around $160 for the service kit through them, but it's my understanding you shouldn't use it unless the noise is simply unbearable to you because it modifies how the lsd works, ie adversely affects the cars performance. |

Redline makes a friction modifier for $8. I'm running RL 75w140 and needed about an oz of modifier to keep it quiet. Use as little as you can get away with.

I can't imagine they actually sold it for this price. I've had it happen before where they (not ecs specifically) just claim out of stock or some excuse as to why they can't sell it. And went ahead and cancelled this order.
If they don't cancel the order I'll be very surprised.

I literally JUST did this last week using this very kit. I hear no clicking at all. Perhaps it's because of my exhaust, but did not notice any audible difference.
SUPER IMPORTANT While I do like ECS tuning and shop there often, when they dropped this order off the bottle of transmission fluid had leaked all over everything and onto my front porch, staining it permanently. I do realize it is more the fault of UPS (the box was literally soaked all the way through), rather than ECS, but they do not wrap the bigger bottles in bags like they do the smaller oil bottles. Just be mindful if you are ordering something larger!

Keep in mind about the only time you will hear any diff noise is around sharp right hand corners. It'll grind, more so than click in my experience. It's usually worse when cold.

Minor thread hijack but I believe this just started occurring on my E92 yesterday at 23k miles. It's a rubbing sound, almost like the right rear tire is rubbing on the fender well, but on inspection I don't see any reason for it to be. Noticed it during a low speed, tight (90 degree) right turn at a stoplight, after the car was driven for about 10 minutes from cold. Does this sound like the diff fluid "issue"? Is it something I need to take care of (i.e. risk of damage) or is it normal?
