Varis Widebody build time!
DISCLAIMER: For my non-highspeed internet friends, I will apologize now, as this thread is going to be full of pictures within the week!
Instagram: @varis_m4 The Car: 2016 M4 Alpine White/Black extended Leather DCT, with all the normal stuff (exec, lighting, etc) Quick Sponsor/Contributor List (in no particular order) Bulletproof Automotive Varis / VRS Toyo Tires ArmyTrix Original Runduce Aragosta Rays Engineering / Volk Racing Recaro Japan Gruppe-M HG Motorsports ESS Tuning Willans IND This car was purchased about 6 weeks ago at BMW of Honolulu with the intent to build a car that represented a mesh of my love for the 3.0 CSL and the JDM lifestyle that I have been involved in over the last few years. I have owned just about every make of car over the last almost 20 years (yes I am a 30something) and enjoyed every one of them for different reasons. So I decided that the F82 would be a great car to begin a project with since it is respected worldwide. After a conversation with the guys at Bulletproof Automotive, a plan was put together and I put my brand new (400miles at the time) M4 on an airplane and she was destined for LAX! The initial plan was Varis Widebody, complete with all options parts and some other minor additions. Needless to say, along the road the plans changed a bit. Somewhere along the road, Toyo Tires offered some booth space at SEMA and I jumped at the chance to introduce my meshing of JDM and German excellence to the world on arguably the biggest stage in the USA. @yo_edo took the concept from my head and put it into a render that started this massive project 4 short weeks ago. Due to the extremely short timeframe to complete this build prior to SEMA many of the parts had to be air freighted to Los Angeles from Japan. That seems like a small task, but when you are talking about large items like the aero kit or even the recaro seats, it can be slightly complicated. Bulletproof Automotive was able to figure it out, and shortly after the car arrived in Los Angeles, parts started to flow in. The most important parts to flow in all came from Varis, can't build my vision without the kit, so they were kind enough to expedite the kit so that the bodyshop could get to work. (Total was 3 very large boxes) ArmyTrix also came through with my exhaust in record time! This was actually installed prior to the car going to the bodyshop. (box looks MUCH smaller than it actually was) (pre-adjustment pic... its 100% straight now) While the car was being delivered to the bodyshop, my wheels and tires came in. Toyo R888 and Volk G25 in Mag Blue. (the second set is for another SEMA project) Over the next week, parts continued to flow in as the kit was being molded and prepped for paint. ESS got my E-Tronic setup to me extremely fast and was extremely supportive with all of my questions as I was on the fence with PnP vs more traditional tune After searching for the perfect brake setup, I was torn. I honestly wasn't sold on anything that was currently available on the market. Not that I thought the offerings were bad, I just wanted something that was different. After a few days of back and forth, Original Runduce Japan agreed to build me a kit. They are well known in Japan for their Forged caliper setups and quality aero collaborations with Varis, so I jumped at the opportunity. The result was an 8piston 380mm front / 6piston 380mm rear. They allowed me to customize the colors to my liking on the caliper, logo and hats on the rotors so they truly are one of a kind. After running Aragosta Type S coilovers on my F30 I knew that I wanted to run them on the M4 as well. Due to the cost of the front diffuser I wanted a way to raise the front in the event I had to navigate a stubborn driveway etc, so the Aragosta 3inch Cup Lifter setup was an obvious choice. In the end I went with Aragosta Type SS 3-way with the Cup Lift system. I chose to go with the Gruppe-M intake based again on past vehicles that I ran their products on (F30 again and Evo X). As always, I was more than happy with the quality product that I received from them. For the interior of the car I decided I was going to change 90% of what BMW put in place. I don't personally ever use my backseat so I knew that it was going away. A quick call to HG Motorsports and a rollbar was on its way. Due to my car being in the bodyshop at the time, my window was very short to have the bar there for paint as well. The team at HG modified an existing bar to add the x-brace and got it to us in record time!(belt guides were added later, but will be in additional picture post) The OEM seats were comfortable, but I personally didn't care for the light up logo (probably the only person but meh) and the lack of a way to install a harness seemed strange for a "performance" car. So they were replaced with Recaro Japan RS-GE which has a wider shoulder and is slightly taller than the standard RS-G. The seats are FIA and only come in black, but I had plans for the interior, so color and material had no place in my seat decision. For the Harnesses I went with Bulletproof Automotive x Willans collaboration harnesses. They are fully customizable which was a big draw for me. I literally had a say in every single small detail on them. They are FIA as well, so seemed like an obvious choice. (Willans sent me tow straps as well) After putting the car together we realized that I needed more adjustability in the rear. There simply was NOT a good solution for the rear and Camber Shims were not going to accomplish what I needed. A quick call to IND and a solution was found. It involved a full custom rear set of arms... to make it more complicated, they needed to be produced and next day shipped the following day in order to get them installed prior to the car leaving LA for Vegas! IND/Fall Line Motorsports managed the impossible with this one of a kind setup in time and exceeded all of my expectations! The time crunch was literally too short for me to even get a good picture, so more to follow on these! More on the complete interior etc coming soon! Until then, off to SEMA! Ill hold my reservations until the photos are in here....
I will say though, a shame that the dealer drilled your front bumper with a licence plate bracket
