Anyone up for a fun game of "Guess that estimate?"

Got rear ended while sitting at a red light...took a pic.

I had similar damage on my EB F30 from a dumbass hitting it in a parking lot. I was quoted 1600 repaired and painted, 2500 replaced with new. But then again, I'm in Hawaii so I pay "paradise tax" lol

is that MW or AW? in either case, looks to me like you should just replace the whole bumper. $2k - $3k

In most cases like this, you'll most likely repair the whole rear bumper. It'll be near 3k to fix I think.

I can't believe this thread has gone this long without some muppet suggesting you file a diminished value claim.

OP, I'm going to estimate a healthy $2379 to get it replaced and repainted.

That's not repairable; at least not to a new like condition. You will have to replace the bumper cover. There might also be damage to the plastic supports right behind the bumper cover. Be sure to check your exhaust as well.

Got an appointment to get it estimated tomorrow. Bumper is definitely trashed, doesn't show in the pic too well, but that dark black spot is a hole you can probably slide a pencil through, also another hole directly southeast of that one right where the bumper flares out.
It's MW as well, which is probably the part that worries me most, being that I've read that color is difficult to get matched up correctly.

I was guessing around $2800.

I got rear ended a few months ago and the repair costs were about $2,400. PDC, exhaust, bumper + diffuser and a little dent on the trunk. :/

$2800 might be on the low side if they have to "blend" into adjacent panels. I would try to get them to just paint the bumper alone for the first try. Before you drop off the car at the body shop, try to take reference photos of how the paint matches from the bumper to the quarter panel. Even the OEM paint from the factory won't match 100% from bumper to quarter panel due to the different materials. A good body shop will know how to manipulate the paint to try to get a good match but with pearl-like paints, it's pretty tough; You may have to end up blending to get a good match.

Hope it turns out good as new when you get it back.

Totalled. That classic Pontiac you backed into can never be replaced. Unless...maybe it's a BMW with a fake badge?

Just shy of 5k or about that I'd say.

Your exhaust also looks bent, if so expect to tack more on to that.

You guys aren't going to believe this but the estimate came in at $1500 almost right on the nose.
The bumper itself is $700, and the rest is made up of 7hrs of paint, removal, parking sensor installation and misc. time to install.

I was really surprised, and to answer any inquiries or concerns, this is a BMW dealer owned collision shop. So, all parts are BMW, and all work is done by BMW certified personnel. I know this because I made sure to ask.

It's kind of crazy pulling up to this place, it looks like an exotic car graveyard; Bentley's, Lambo's, a black Skyline, and an M6, among various other higher end cars. Needless to say, I felt pretty comfortable taking it there when I saw the inventory out front. The dealer (Field's BMW) is part of a larger group that owns a Lambo and Bentley dealer right around the corner, as well as quite a few other dealerships all over Florida.

Anyways, back to the point. Like I said, I was really surprised at the total, I was expecting double that. But just for everyone's info in case you find yourself in a similar situation and need a bumper replaced, you've got some precedence to not be overcharged if you're paying out of pocket.

That price surprise me too. But that's good to hear. Fortunately a bumper is easy to replace.

Makes my $1 bid the closest to the actual retail price without going over.

See you later contestant's row, I'm gonna play me some mofo plinko

Can't be sure, but I was stopped at a red light that had been red for quite a bit. There were at least 5-6 cars in front of me in my lane alone, stopped. I pulled up and had been stopped for at least 30-40 seconds and got hit without hearing any sound of screeching tires. So, I'm not sure if the driver was texting, but he certainly wasn't looking out of his front windshield.

Unfortunately, it seems that staring at your phone while driving is becoming the new norm. It's always bothered me seeing people do it, but now that I'm actually inconvenienced by it possibly (read: most likely) happening to me, it makes me absolutely livid to see it. I got lucky and didn't get hurt, nor did any of my passengers, but this shit has to stop. There is nothing THAT important in your life going on with your phone, that should make you pay more attention to it than the road. And if there is...pull the fuck over.

/end rant (sorry)
