My M4 Rant

So I've had my M4 since May and overall it's a good and fun car but honestly I'm not as impressed with it as much as I want to be. To my disappointment it has been an anticlimactic experience. I'm sure I'll get tons of hate for this post but this is just my opinion, please take it as that. Below are my list of rants I've acquired since May.

1. The sound. I wish it was much more of an exotic sound. At this point the sound actually annoys me.
2. The power. It's fast but not scary fast. I have an ESS tune which did make it feel a little faster and more aggressive but it's not fast enough for me.
3. The bucking. If I have the car in Sport or Sport+ and I am cruising around or in parking lot and I just slightly hit the gas then remove my foot from the accelerator it begins to buck back and forth. Very embarrassing and frustrating - this happens at least once a day.
4. No Alcantara. As a top of the line M car I would at least like the option to have an Alcantara roof liner and other Alcantara pieces throughout the cabin. Event the RCF has this option.
5. No Red-Line light. Other than the heads up display (which is hard to see) there is not an indicator light for when to shift. I know, you can buy the M steering wheel but I'd like a light somewhere to tell me when to shift.

So this is my current rant list. Let the hate posts begin....

Simple solution: Buy a different car. Then go to that car's forum and bitch about things you don't like. Rinse, repeat.

Maybe it's time to try out a different tune, you might like the change in power. But then again maybe this car is not meant for you, you might be happier in something else. Excuse me, I'm ranting away also.!

#2 shouldn't come as a surprise to you. If you want scary fast there are a lot better choices for cars.
#4 if you want alcantana you can do it aftermarket. You can buy the entire kit and have the full headliner like the M5.

Stop ranting and gtfo of your car and this forum. No j/k, but quite literally though, just get into another car, assuming you're able to that is. Seems like the M4's just not for you...whereas many of the things you've mentioned aren't deal breakers for most of us given the fact that we can overlook these so called "annoyances" and enjoy the car, it sounds like they keep you up at night lol

So my view;

#1. Fair enough, an inline 6 turbo is not going to sound the same as a naturally aspirated 8. Just isn't going to happen. I personally like the car (though at cruising highway speeds I'll admit to putting it in "efficient" mode to do away with the drone sound). An investment can be made in an exhaust (many choices) that significantly changes the engine sound. Having said that, this is not and never has been the selling point of the car.

#2. Car's pretty darn fast for a RWD genuine four seater. Of course you're not just paying for straight line acceleration (if that's the only thing you want - then yeah you should have bought a Challenger Hellcat). You're also paying for the handling. There are faster cars but I don't identify with this one at all. 0-60 in 3.9 for a true four seater (vs a 2+2) is pretty damn fast in almost anyone's books. Of course, you can also do faster with a 2 seater but... you know then get a 2 seater.

#3. Bucking? Anything that addresses point #2 to your satisfaction is going to buck if you don't control the throttle at slow speeds . May want to think about taking it out of Sport+ in parking lots. Sport+ is not tailored for nuanced driving like in parking lots.

#4 Alcantara. As someone has said - you can easily aftermarket this. Personally, too much of that crap (fine on steering wheel, but roof liner, etc) causes me to feel pretty far away from a track car but personal choice.

#5 Whaaa? I just don't even know what you're talking about. I have so many things blinking and projecting when I'm approaching redline (with the M Performance HUD on) I honestly don't know what the heck you're talking about. I have the 6MT, maybe its different in the DCT.

But hey - different strokes. If you're not happy, ditch it. No hate, just move on. Personally - I freaking LOVE this car.

Dang, now that's some serious hate! Just because I have a few rants doesn't mean I hate the car and want to get rid of it. There is a ton of stuff I do like about the car, just not everything. Like weaving in and out of traffic on my drive home - especially with the Dinan suspension But this is a RANT POST, not a WHAT I LOVE POST - which is almost every other post here. This is like trying to convert a repub to a dem or vice versa!

Very valid post as its your opinion and nothing wrong with that. First, if you want more speed you need to go above 500hp. Actually I sold my M5 for the M4 due to the unusable power at 560 which possibly is closer to 600, and it was just to big so I sold it. By the way it jerked like th M4 that's the nature of th DCT, and my guess is you had it in M Mode max response performance level. (Need to apply gas it's not an automatic) as some may think. By the way my GT3 which is PDK it does the same thing when starved for fuel it wants to go.

I find the M4 a perfect balance of power which is a DD for me, and the GT3 is my track car and weekend fun. You need to give it some time, or yes sell it before you take a real bath on the trade which will be brutal in a high production car. For the size category it's the best performer around unless you go Pcar which you lose th rear seat, and you lose the torque. If you want crazy power get the M5 it's insane, but not usable in my opinion unless you just want to say I have a fast car which is pointless because how fast do you want to go or capable of going? My advice to don't read car mags with 0 to 60 time because it's useless unless you track a lot, and are compeating to bat lap times vs street light to street light which will kill someone. Good luck with your choice.

Must be because nothing blinks on mine, it's DCT. The heads up display tach goes solid yellow then red but i have a hard time seeing it.

Actually, until the M2 shows up, the M3/4 is the bottom of the line M car, with the M5 and M6 above it. (Also X5M and X6M)

My 6MT has lights on the tach that go nuts when I need to shift.

2. Get upgraded turbos, meth, along with your ESS.
3. Drive in comfort mode, or automatic mode.
4. Get IND Alcantara headliner retrofit.
5. Get M steering wheel, OR, turn on HUD, OR, look at tachometer, OR, stay in automatic mode.

No hate, only solutions.
