New F80 delivery, paint flaw!
I know I need to upload a picture, problem is my phone couldn't capture the flaw (too much glare from sun, couldn't see it in photos), I will try later today.
So took delivery of my F80 SO yesterday which the kids have already named "Tiger Shark", they also names our new X6 "Great White" (Mineral white with red leather) as I was looking over the car I noticed on the rear bumper between the exhausts (sorry don't know what that lip part is called), there is a "blemish or flaw" in the paint, its about 3/8" long and maybe 1/8" in height, my car is Sakhir orange and this flaw was BLACK. so at first I thought it was scraped or something, BUT its just a spot that must have been missed while painting because its clear coated and smooth with the rest of the bumper. Its one of those things when you buy something new you want it to be perfect even if 1-2 years from now you know it will have blemishes, you want those to be from your own usage not from the factory... The dealership said they would take care of it (and obviously charge back BMW) BUT the SA told me he probably wouldn't paint it if it were his car, because the color may not match perfectly. They wouldn't paint the entire bumper, they would just tape off that lip section and paint it... He mentioned spot touchup and I said absolutely not (leaving it black would look better than any spot job). So would you guys leave it as is (I am probably the only person that would ever notice and there is no way it would effect resale in 3-5 years), or would you have it repainted and risk a non perfect color match? |

Repainting a bumper cover is easy and the match would be perfect. Actually, bumpers don't exactly match the rest of the body panels as it is because they are different substrates and the color shade is always off ever so slightly.

I got a black nib/spot on the left door of my SO car as well. BMW NA only offers repainting, so I will probably just live with it. Your case doesn't look that bad as people say above there are more options.
