Downpipes, and which to get?
Hi guys,
Am looking into changing my downpipes on my '14 M5. Currently I have a custom exhaust installed but am not getting the sound I want. Rode a friends M4 with downpipes the other day and it sounds way more aggressive even though its a inline engine. Am trying to get that aggressive sound, will changing the downpipe help? Also will the droning inside the car go away? If so which downpipes should I get, and how much will it cost me? Thankyou in advance |

No it wont. If you change your stock to afternarket downpipes Now if you have aftermarket dp and wanting better sound from a different brand of dp. It wont make difference imo. Are you comapring m4 vs m5 also? |

Catless downpipes will definitely help make the car sound more aggressive. The most popular downpipes we offer are the Evolution Racewerks. Highest quality + perfect fitment every single time

I installed AMS downpipes on my car. Best thing I did to my car. It puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it now. you could hear the turbo spools. and enhances the sound.
worth every penny. |

I am comparing my current M5 with stock DP and Custom exhaust with my brother M4 with Akrapovic exhaust + DP. Currently side by side the M4 is much louder. |

Reviving this thread because downpipes are my next purchase.
Is there any performance and/or sound benefit for the AMS design which uses a 3.5" inlet and tapers down to a 3" pipe? I was looking at the ER downpipes, but they are 3" all the way. I've heard fitment is generally a non-issue with any of the option, so it really boils down to 1) price and 2) if there is anything tangible to be seen as an improvement in either sound/power by using the 3.5->3" design such as AMS. The ER's are ~$400-$500 less than the AMS version, which is substantial. Thanks, Brad

I would recommend you consider race precision. RPi makes awesome product here in the US. Their down pipes and exhaust sound amazing. It will put an M4 with downpipes to shame in terms of sound.

I have the Meisterschaft DP's, which cost about the same as the AMS. Because Of GTHaus's seriously delayed lead times, I would have probably gone with Underground DP's next time due to the larger radius.
It's important to note that all of the available DP's have to reduce down to the stock 2.5" connection point. That is the limiting factor and the reason why there are minor or no performance differences between them all. |
