Question regarding orbital polisher

I own a 3" Random Orbital from Griot's Garage, my question is if it's possible to adapt a 5" polishing pad?

You could fit a hook and loop larger backing plate, but I think you'll find the 3" orbital doesn't have enough power to accomplish much.

And they are typically counter balanced to smooth out the operation of the machine. That much variation in pad/backing plate weight will likely introduce a lot of vibration. Just get the right machine for the job.

I agree with the advice given above. I've been using one since it was released and based on that experience I wouldn't dream of using a 5" pad on it. OTOH I have used the 3" to polish half a car and it worked out fine, even going faster than I thought possible.

Do you have any experience with a rotary? It is a whole lot different and requires much more car than a DA.

I learned a lot about polishing with my former black X6m, that color was a pain in the a$$, now with an alpine white, no worries, piece of cake
