Anyone else take their 19" wheels off to clean them?
I just did and it's like brand new again. Too many nooks and crannies. I can get the calipers too while I'm at it. I have the black ones by the way.

not yet. but - i was thinking about this exact thing JUST this afternoon. how's that for weird timing!?
but i was thinking about it as i was about to order a set of dedicated 18" winter rims and tyres and (given the apparent shortage of michelins) at the same time order new michelins for my existing 19" rim so they are ready to go next spring when i take the winters off. and since the 19" will be off for the winter - i was thinking about washing and waxing them so when the michelin new rubber comes in this spring, i'm ready to go. and yes, i need new rubber already at 9,000 miles! |

Eyup.
Like you said, easier to do the brake calipers too. I usually lay an old towel down in the driveway, clean the backside (barrels) and then the face. It's a good time to put a nice sealant on them too. You used a wheel pin for removal too, right? This is where the CCBs really shine. Wheels stay clean(er). I used to do this. Was also thinking about it for the M. Not sure about getting the wheels back on. Will need a torque wrench I think? Anyone know?
Beens using Griots wheel wands. They help a ton but not up to my super anal standards. Also hate how I can really get them clean then the rust water drips from the rotors messing up my work. Damn! http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...Picks&refType= |

Nope - maybe once every x years, when getting new tires or something like that, but probably not even then. They don't get that dirty and I don't really care about anything that can only be noticed upon close inspection after "regular" cleaning. I only use soap (car wash detergent) and water to clean what I can see and reach. Lack of brake dust helps but took same approach on last cars that didn't have CCB.

Thanks. Gonna need to decide if I want to go down that road. Should have gotten the CCBs. Next M i guess. Only thing I'm worried about is that many CCB owners have wheel gouges from low clearance between the wheel and caliper. Sure they will fix that with the Comp package and difference wheels. Not happy the M2 is getting the same 19" as the m3/4.
Can not fix that ass on the m2 so guess its OK. Thanks for the info on the torque wrench. |

yes doing a full wheels off detail on your wheels is great I try to do this once a year as well while they are off I like to clean up the calipers and wheel wells.

If I did I certainly wouldn't share that fact with anybody. I do it (sometimes) when I remove them to swap to winter wheels. I'm usually too busy out reapplying a new brake dust coating.

No, but I'm glad to know that if I did carry my sick, perfectionist tendencies to their logical conclusion, I wouldn't be alone.
