Carly for BMW - Battery Coding for 2011 N55?

I need to register a new battery in my 2011 135. I have been searching the forum and have not found a definitive answer on whether the Carly app on the iPhone (using the Carly OBD Wifi adapter) will register the battery on my car? Has anyone registered their battery on a 2011 or newer 135 using the Carly app on the iPhone/iPad?

When I asked Carly's tech support they told me that the best way to know is by borrowing a generic wifi/bluetooth odb2 reader from a friend and seeing if it works in the lite version. Maybe different software versions *may* affect battery registration support?

I used it on my 10 135i and my wifes 11 328i. Worked jusy fine for both. I used the cheap elm adapter.

2011 135i here. I installed a new battery assuming it would work since others have had success. I got a message saying, "battery registration not available for your engine" or something along those lines. contacted support and they said they are working on it and my engine may get added in an update this month. I think by engine they mean software version but I may be mistaken. Definitely try with the free version first.

I've been waiting for them to support parameters for the N55 for months now. Carly works great for pulling/clearing codes and to change settings but they've never gotten parameters to work for N55.

I'm still waiting on them to figure out how to code F3x series...code reading is fine using their adapter, but they say they need to come up with a new BT adapter that can connect to the "network" interface. Seems like they've been working on this for over a year - hope they figure it out soon, as I really like their product.

Looks like they just updated the app to add some engines and included some enhancements for F series... https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/carl...467343427?mt=8

I'll download and check battery registration when I get back to my car.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses.

The Carly lite app indicates that battery registration is not yet available. I also could not get it to read any parameters (the lite app is supposed to read engine speed to show compatibility for that model).

I'll hold off on buying the full app until they add more functionality. I've also got a 2011 X3 2.8 but they are way behind on the F models.

I still need to register the battery so any recommendations on an iPhone app that works with the Carly wifi adapter would be appreciated. Though I replaced the lead acid battery with a lead acid battery so hopefully no harm will come from driving it unregistered in the meantime. Funny thing is the battery has a 40 month non-prorated warranty so if it craps out during that time it will be replaced no charge.

The only thing I know that for sure allows us to register batteries ourselves is the NCSExpert/INPA program that runs on a laptop and interfaces to the car through a fancy cable that does a digital to analog conversion - mine cost about $100. It seems neither terribly easy nor terribly difficult. Carly seems to be the most capable phone/tablet app.

Just to clarify - I spent less than $100 on the Carly for BMW app (Android version) and their BT adapter. It works really great on our 2011 128i as far as reading/clearing codes and coding features. It also reads/clears codes on our 2013 F30 335i, and can do everything but code features - for that I am using E-SYS (see F30 coding and DIY forum) on a Windows laptop. It costs roughly the same for that system, the accompanying coding data, and a "network" OBDII cable. It is a little more complex than Carly, but it works quite well on the F-chassis cars for coding features.

Just wanted to add my experience to this thread. I recently purchased the Carly Gen 2 and am also getting a message stating that battery registration is not available for my car.

How many batteries are you going to replace in the ownership of the car? Maybe one? Have an independent do it for $50!

This Carly thing sounds like a waste of money & time.

If you're going to buy it just to register batteries, probably. But it does a lot of other things, such as fault code reading/clearing, feature coding, parameter monitoring/logging, etc., and it does them quite well. Caveat is whether or not your particular car is covered. Both my E88 and F30 are (except for feature coding on the F30, which is due out this quarter).

They updated the app today with "support of the BMW models 135i, 335i, and 535i in battery registration". Maybe that finally covers the N55 models?

So I just went out and tested the new update on my car and can confirm that the battery registration feature is now working on my N55/DCT.

Does Carly charge an additional fee for the battery module? I have purchased the full version thinking it was everything but I've not programmed a battery yet.
