at the port, prior to transport to your dealer for redelivery, they should remove the plates from the car, clean up the adhesive, and stick the plates back-to-back to eachother and put them in your trunk. was your car redelivered with plates or adhesive still on the car?

If Log in Out ships them with "leave the plates" notice the car could arrive with plates still installed. I was asked at PCD if I wanted them removed or not

Upon pick up at the local dealer they had removed the plates, the ugly residue was showing. I told them not to prep the car, knowing how bad they detail it.

They let me take the front plate out only but advised not to because I might damage the paint. Instead they left a note in the car to ensure the plates get delivered to me back in the states.

Use a heat gun or hair dryer and get a can of bug and tar remover. I wouldn't use goo gone or wd40 on my paint

That's not allowed because the plates need to be on the car while it's on the truck being shipped to the port.

My car was re-delivered to my dealer in the US with all plates and toll vignettes still on it. Nothing was removed at port, and I asked the dealer not to either.

I use WD40 as a solvent to clean hand tools and the like. Even though many here say it's safe on paint I'd never use it for that purpose. Paint is porous. Would you dump motor oil on your car? I think not. But you're essentially spraying motor oil diluted with light petrochemicals and petrochemical "solvents" on your car's paint when you use WD40. Would you want your paint absorbing that? And how do you get it out of your paint? I don't get the WD40 recommendation.

I believe the question the OP wanted answered was how to remove the tape from the plates once they were removed from the car. WD-40 will work to do that (it's how I got mine off - easy peasy). The plates were removed from the car by applying a heat gun to soften the tape followed by gently pulling from the edges. The amount of residue left on the car was minimal and easy to clean up with the einzett 1z bug and sap remover and a MF towel.
