Rubber Winshield Seals
So, I hand wash my car every weekend. Had it coated with CQ Finest about 6 months ago, and entirely happy with it. My problem area is the rubber seals on the windshield. Every week, they're faded and show water spots along their whole length. So I looked around some detailing products websites and bought this Tire and Trim Gel from CG. Says it's "long lasting." I put it on with an applicator, let it sit for a minute, then MF it off. Seals are dark and perfect. Problem is that by the next day, the fading and spots are back.
Anyone have any recommendations? Much appreciated. |

Same issue here...it drives me nuts. The trim on the door sills has the same issue. I haven't found anything that works long term. Hopefully someone has found a product that resolves the issue.

most of the dressing well wear down after a wash, so plan on repeating it each time I know it sucks. for rubber seals this is a good one.

I use carpro PERL and it helps a bit, it lasts until the next wash. This time I applied PERL 1:1 on those trims, We will see how long it lasts.

Thank you, sir. And please do let me know. If it lasts a couple of weeks, it will save me re-applying stuff on them 12x.

There's also another good old product, Aerospace 303. I used it in the past with success but this time around I choose to try the new hyped PERL product that is all around good on tires, vinyl, plastic, ...

Referring to the plastic moldings on the left and right side by the pillar? Those things drive me nuts

No. I'm talking about the soft rubber seals framing the front windshield. I've never noticed a problem with the plastic moldings. Although now that you mention them I feel a compulsion to run out to the garage and check them too...damn this OCD to hell!!! |

I was also referring to the drip mouldings, part 2 in http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_9245 . OP, which part were you referring to ?

Here's a pic of my drip moulding with PERL 1:1, four days later. But no rain, and only parked one day outside my garage and drove few hours daily. Are yours similar or worse?

I know my dealer replaced interior trim that wasn't uniform in color, I.e. Discoloured. But to replace this trim, I think (not sure) they may have to remove the windshield and I wouldn't want that. |

Car is garaged every night, but does sit in the sun at work. So, I ordered the Einszett 1z the other day, and I ordered the PERL as soon as I saw the pic of your seal. Maybe the UV protection the PERL has is the answer. Thanks again for your help, and I'll let you know how it works for me.

Ok btw given the PERL is so versatile it's always nice to have. Here's a pic of my tires after being cleaned w Tuff shine and coated w PERL after 5 days of wash but again no rain. Not insanely shiny like the bad silicon products but nice and black. PERL can also be safely layered given its water based.

If I may throw in another suggestion, that would be Opti-Bond Tire Gel for both tires and the rubber moulding. I used to use PERL before and Opti-Bond is better IMO both in terms of durability and appearance. I have Gummi Pfege, but only use it on the door seals.
As already mentioned by aboulfad, Tuff Shine is hard to beat for cleaning tires.

dmnc, do you apply it full strength, or dilute it? On the info page it said you could do both. If none of these products work, I'll just convert my car to a dualie, so I can get rid of all of it. |

My sentiments exactly.
On another note, nice garage floor. Did you have that professionally done, or do it yourself from a kit? And your tires and wheels look...familiar. |
