Can someone plz run a carfax and confirm if this was a pre demo car?

Hi guys -

I'm just about to pick up a beautiful M4 but learned through the grapevine (buddy who owns a used car dealership and ran a report) the car I'm looking at might have been a demo car in its history. The dealer claims it was not a demo / service car but rather a 1 owner vehicle.

Can someone plz run report / car fax and share with me? VIN is below.

WBS3R9C57FK331677

Thank you very much and TGIF!

It doesn't say anything about being a demo car.

demo cars arent marked a special way through carfax etc

you'd have to see who the previous owner was, which is something they wont be able to do (confidentiality)

if the price is right who cares?

My X3 was a loaner/demo vehicle, but on the carfax it doesn't show that. It just shows a single owner before I bought it. The owner happened to be the dealership, but I only know that cuz I bought it from them.

Demo cars come in at least two flavors: those registered to BMW NA, and those registered to the dealers. The former are numerous, and could have been BMW press cars (massive abuse potential), or BMW NA exec freebies (probably well taken care of).

Dealer registered cars could have been loaners cars (highly unlikely for an M3!), or toy cars for the owner and his family (rare).

How many miles on the car?
What entity is the previous DMV registered owner?

Exec freebie = likely well treated.
Press car = likely abused.
Zero chance of proper drive-train brake in, red lining on cold oil, etc, etc.

Carfax and Autocheck says there is a lien on the title so it is probably a personal car.

Also, aren't demo cars sold with 4 year warranty like new cars?

This car is a demo car and has the extended DEMO warrenty to 55k miles (3 months) with it.

The car was not registered to BMW so its likely an executive demo for a GM or GSM.

id disagree about that one, i worked in the auto industry in the past and i wouldnt say that the gm drove the demo any harder than a new owner would

Demo Spec Info

Demo Spec Description: DEMO
Demo Spec Months: 3
Demo Spec Odometer: 5,000

New Vehicle Warranty Info

No Coverage As Of: 04/02/2019
Expiration Mileage: 55,000

So yes, it was a demo. Call BMW of melbourne. That's where it was sold originally. Atleast, that's where it was PDI'd. No idea if they dealer traded it to texas or how it got there.

Thanks for all the info guys. This is really helpful.

The dealer that has the car now is telling me it was not a demo car when it looks like it was CLEARLY a demo car. Now it's just a matter of determining what the story is.

Funny thing is, I was supposed to test drive the car this weekend but it had to have the fuel system replaced since some water got into the fuel tank - is that a red flag or what?!

5k miles and registered to an individual owner in Texas at 44 miles. I don't believe he is affiliated with BMW in any way

I think you'd have to have some kind of affiliation, otherwise BMW wouldn't give it a "new" car warranty that starts at current mileage.

OP: the carfax is available right on the dealers page where the car is listed, maybe you missed it? http://www.miniofarlington.com/Vehic...-TX/2592302843

How much discount are they offering from the 72.5K listed price?

For me it's a red flag that they had to "replace a fuel system". I would just walk away and buy a new one, since you should be able to find a new one for not much more, especially now since dealers will be looking to unload their 2015s

They are asking $72.5K. I can basically get a 2016 model for a little more than that. Think I'm gonna pass on this one.

Thanks a lot for the input gentlemen.

Negative. Fuel line replacement was just brought to my attention today. The work hasn't been done yet.

Good choice walking away from this one. It should be quite possible to get a killer deal as there are too many 2015s on the ground. Below invoice shouldn't be out of the question.

Flood car from this spring in Texas? Possible water damage?

I'm never surprised by how much dealers are willing to screw the unsuspecting.

Yep, that is definitely a possibility. Pretty shady dealer in my opinion.

My buddy inquired about the car and they didn't mention anything about water in the gas tank.

This is a high MSRP car (everything but ceramics), but I'd be looking for more than the $10k off sticker that they're offering.
