pressure washer for home detailing
best pressure washer for home detailing? Looking to spend $100-200 for weekend detailing on my F30/F80. What is a safe pressure and best GPM? Looking to use in conjunction with a foam cannon.

I think most of the pressure washers in that range are similar. They're decent, but will likely break in a few years. Still money well spent. The Sun Joe mentioned would be just fine IMO. As far as a safe pressure, I'd think anything under 2000psi, but just don't hold it too close to the car; you're not really trying to pressure scrub all the dirt off, just providing that initial layer of lube to get some of the dirt/dust away.
They're all about the same GPM. For me, lower is better, to conserve water. A foam cannon is a must IMO. That's the main reason I have a pressure washer |

Each pressure washer's fittings are slightly different. I'm not familiar with the Sun Joe. I went to Home Depot with part of my wand/gun, and made sure the quick connects were the right one. There are many options for male/female and sizes; it can be a bit tough to shop online, unless you know exactly what you need.
I have the MTM foam cannon; bought it from Amazon. Seems like the same one all the auto detail places sell, but without their logo. Works very well. Came with a quick disconnect, and I just bought one to match it. |

I've got the Ryobi that I picked up from Home Depot. It's fine, price was right ($150ish) and more than powerful enough for the job. Body shop guy I spoke to said going over 1700 could get you in trouble if you're not careful.
I also have that foam lance and the quick connect it comes with works with my washer. |

I also bought the Ryobi from Home Depot. Used in conjunction with the MTM Foam Cannon they work great!
I will say however that the quick disconnect fitting that came with the MTM wouldn't fit into the tip of the Ryobi. I had to go to home depot and get one of the brass fittings they have sitting next to the pressure washers. It was like $3 or $4. You probably don't NEED to use teflon/plumbers tape with it, but I usually throw a 1 or 2 inch piece on the threads of every quick disconnect fitting I use. I bought one that had a HONDA engine.
it flows like 2.3GPM the quick disconnect fitting from the CG foam cannon didn't fit. used the screw on fitting for now but will make a trip to HD for the proper one. I don't go closer than 2 ft to the surface and use the 40 deg head. |
