AKA...How Long Before I Decide To Supercharge It?

I get my Active Autowerke X Pipes tomorrow, along with Macht Schnell Underdrive Pulleys and Stage II intake.

I'll be going with a BPM tune shortly thereafter, and the car already has an Eisenmann Race exhaust.

So, the question is...when do I plunk down the cash for an ESS kit? Hahaha...

No real story or question, the research is there to know how much HP/TQ to expect. I'm kind of stoked because I'm still running the software from the first run of 2008 (so, I'm guessing a 2007 build...)

Just wanted to share my excitement...and, here's a couple of photos for good measure!

Only thing is, when I bought the car, BMW offered me the equivalent of a CPO for a super cheap price because of the low mileage. So, I'm kind of waiting for that to run out (3 years), just in case the rod bearing thing happens.

If it DOESN'T happen by then, I'm going to do some preventative rod bearings pretty much the DAY the warranty expires, then slap a S/C on knowing that I can at least rest easy.

Luckily, I don't drive the car all too often, so it's still really exciting when I get in it!

just do the rod bearings (if you're worried about them) and supercharge it now. ride in one and you won't want to wait the three years.

Well, that's depending on how sensible I want to be. When I brought it home, it was "this car is perfect...doesnt' need a thing"...

I dunno, maybe I'm one of the few guys that doesn't have HUGE interest in going FI. The car is plenty fast as is (I'm catless and have BPM Stg 2). I also plan to keep the car for good.

I'm more interested in adding either an M2 or F80 M3 to the mix and mess with that, and leave my E36 and E92 NA.

Same here, I guess we aren't as power hungry as others. I'm happy with the car currently I don't have a never ending hunger for more power and spending money just for a sake of adding a new mod. I just plan to enjoy it more over the next couple of years. I do plan on setting up the car more for track days and all the maintenance and some upgrades that comes with that.

I guess because I drive an E36 M3 3-4 days out of the week, the E92 feels quick enough. What lack of torque?

I do plan on doing rod bearings, diff and subframe bushings though. The car has been brilliant the past 25k miles. No complaints here

My take is that you have only a cat back exhaust on the car now, which adds the least power of any power mod. You have barely started moving towards the wall and are far from hitting it. Get the rest of the mods in and then report back after some time with them. I have all the bolt on mods and find the car entertaining enough. Stock, it was boring.

If I had the money, I would supercharge. I have never had too much power. But I have another toy for my power fix at present, a turbo E36 M3 that makes over 600 rwhp and does about 135 in the quarter. I actually prefer turbo power to centrifugal power -- had a supercharger on the E36 before the turbo. I may just sell the E90 M3 and buy a newer turbo car to drive and mod.

That's pretty much what I said when I bought it....it's fast enough, doesn't need anything, I don't have to mod it....

And then it moves on into "this is the last mod, the car is done"...

My assistant laughs at me when I say that. I said that when I put the blower on. A month or so later it was full coilovers and a BBK. Then I said that again.

He laughed at me again.

I came to terms with myself and said "OK, maybe performance seats too"...

I find it hilarious that M3P is so supercharger oriented. The car is a high revving naturally aspirated beast, and an engineering marvel. If you feel the need to mod it, get a drop in filter, test pipes / x pipe, pulleys and a tune and be done with it. Unless you are trying to be a stop light racer, I just can't understand it.

I love tracking my car knowing that I do not have to worry about cooling issues etc. Save the $7 - $10k and enjoy the car in its true form.

Also, I have noticed that most buyers (including myself) stay away from supercharged cars.

Very few cars (none?) can be modded to 650HP for as little money as the M3. The superchargers are very refined, widely used, are completely bolt on and have 0 drivability issues. IMO its easy to see why its so popular.

If you are looking for a car to mod to big HP I think the M3, Porsche 997.1 turbo and GTR are your top 3.

I also track my car along with many others without issue.

The 997 Turbo and GTR are FI from the factory, big difference. Why would you need 650 HP at the track? Were you out driving the car in NA form?

You need 650 HP at the track to compensate for going so slow through the corners.
