Tempted to disable K band on my Escort....opinions?

I have an Escort 9500i (not ix) windshield mounted radar detector. Prior to getting my F80, it sat unused in my garage (my 535 wasn't speedy enough to warrant). These days I constantly get random K band alerts from the cars around me - from reading various sources seems like these are the collision avoidance systems, etc. on newer vehicles.

I can't remember the last time I got a valid police radar gun signal on K band....seems like it's always Ka band or laser. So, I'm tempted to just disable K band on the detector to avoid all the false alarms. Is this dumb? Am I going to just open myself up to getting tagged (and a ticket)??

Are the newer detectors (Passport Max 2) any better at ignoring these alerts?

Thanks for the opinions...

depends where you will be driving.

I live in so cal and have K disabled. I hear there are a few local PD that still use K. I dont speed much on local roads so no big deal.

I disabled both X and K on my V1. Everything in CA is pretty much Ka band.

I'd say around me 95-7% of threats are Ka band, but I still will deal with the occasional K fake alert rather than risk it. X of course is disabled.

My K40 like most now have a filter for K band and others. My is setting for K is set very high and does not go off much any more. It is also set to not go off at all below 45 MPH.

I disabled X and K band on my V1 in SoCal. So much better now, when it makes noise, it's almost always cop or CHP.

Likely completely safe, you just need to know what is used in your area. In my state only laser and Ka are in my area and some of the small towns still use K band....so when on highway K band is off, when heading north to go skiing (through said small towns) k band is back on. Have my V1 set up so I can turn K band off and on by holding down the button for 3 seconds. X band always off. Also take road trips to Delaware and they and NJ use some older Ka band so I have a custom program for those states through V1 connect when we head that way.

There are plenty of sites like this:

Since the OP may consider a Max2, I'm wondering what radar freq the blind spot monitoring system uses? and if anyone that has the drivers assistance package has experienced alot of falses as a result?

I have the drivers assistance package option ticked but the M3 wont be delivered for another 1-2months. I probably should have held out until I purchased the Max2 but couldnt help myself.

What rhk118 said. Except I wouldn't say "likely" completely safe. Check out if the K band radar is used in your area first. If not, then turn it off. Then turn it on if you go outside your everyday driving area.

Cheers.
