Rear end in trouble? Back-up cam installed!
My ass is always in trouble, so I purchased BimmerTech's custom CYA protection package. Consisted of fully OEM integrated back up cam and coding. My F82 is a 6MT, and it works flawlessly. Fully plug-n-play. Absolutely NO splicing, cutting, patching, etc required.
Starting from the back, the trunk handle was replaced with the one provided that had the camera integrated. It's just held in by clips, and comes right off: Replacing the opening mechanism took a little fiddling, but was pretty easy to figure out The camera cable was then routed along OEM lines on the trunk panel: And up the right side of the car: Then along the passenger footwell: And up to the headunit, where it connects to the BimmerTech harness and module: The OEM integration was seamless. It activates when I put the car in reverse. The display on screen looks OEM. I don't have exec pack (obviously), nor the PDC, so those do not show on the screen. It does require coding from BimmerTech, which they do remotely. The remote coding session was very easy to schedule. All of the instructions that come with the kit are pretty clear, including how to disassemble your dash and trunk. Maybe not for the total noob, but anyone with the slightest bit of DIY experience can do this without problems. The kit is a bit pricey, but IMO you're paying for the seamless OEM integration. It also costs less than the Exec pack. Pretty happy with the product, service, and communication from BimmerTech. I'd easily recommend it to anyone considering this retrofit. My ass still gets in trouble, but at least I don't have to turn my neck around as much |

Thanks I did it the "right" way, but mainly because I was upgrading my audio at the same time, and needed to pull off the panels/trim/etc anyways. If you got this installed, nobody in their right mind would do all this work; there are much easier ways to do this, where you just tuck the wire out of sight, and the camera works just the same

I'm curious if your new camera works better than the OEM, I see your car is white, how about the quality of the image in low light situation?
OEM does not work on low light if your car is white or light color, thats why I'm asking here

Also, you can adjust the brightness of the screen via the iDrive controller. Very OEM. |

Here's one in my car. It's an E60. This camera is a bit different than the one from the OP. This has a multimedia module which has 3 a/v inputs.
Input 1: Smartview Mirroring unit Input 2: Front View Camera Input 3. Rear view camera in-motion- enables rear view camera while driving. Last edited by Nelson@BimmerTech; 07-09-2015 at 04:36 PM.. |

Which rear view camera kit is the one that is a true plug and play solution for the manual transmission f80? Not looking to splice/tap wires any wires period. Just want to plug her up and be done with it. Also does your kits come with a way to activate the rear view even if I'm not in reverse? And which kit could enable the rearview camera while in motion like you have for your e60? Thank you sir

http://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/bmw-...em-integration Unfortunately The kit that allows you to activate the rear view cam in motion requires tapping. With this kit you can also add a front camera and our wifi mirroring unit. |
