Paint chip on door

So after getting CQuartz professionally applied on my M4 2 weeks ago, I took my M4 to the car wash yesterday. I came home to find this 2mm paint chip on my drivers side door!..Does this look like someone did this purposely? I've driven the M4 more than usual this week to and back from work so can't really say when and where this could've occured..Just sort of frustrating that I noticed it after coming back from the carwash.
Anyways, just purchased a Dr. Paint Chip repair kit that I think/hope should take care of this chip and hide it rather easily. Oh the minor things that we lose sleep over!!..Damnit!!

That's not caused by someone hitting your door. That is caused by your door hitting something.

+1 did that back in the day with another vehicle of mine. Gotta be careful when you swing it open in a hurry

^agreed, but funny thing is, I'm pretty careful when it comes to opening my door, avoid tight spots when parking, and I don't remember ever hitting anything. Go figure..

I'm fixing one on my hood right now. it's probably a 2 inch scratch. not sure how this could happen? I feel like a rock would just make a smaller circular chip and not a longer scratch. so no idea how this would have happened??? but I'm working on fixing it the best I can. yours should be fairly easy and won't show much in that spot. mines right on the middle front part of the hood.....

m3rxn Definitely the door hit something, it's in line w the door handle. Happened on my car too. Having repaired many dozens of paint chips on my car, I was curious and watched the Dr chip demo video, honestly it looks too good to be true. First notice that they used a non metallic color, smearing metallic paint on clear coat makes a mess and applying metallic paint w that applicator is a futile exercise for that size of chips. Check ammos vids, he's an amazing guy w great attention to detail and has a great video for that : http://www.ammonyc.com/detailing/paint-chip-touch-up/

Whatever you do, clean, prep and be patient. You can buy the blender in any automotive paint shop also in aerosol format. And don't forget to dab some clear coat after your touch up paint has thoroughly dried. If not they do tend to come off w pressure washer and especially if the area wasn't cleaned properly... I tend to scuff the exposed metal area w a fiber glass pen to ensure great paint adhesion. Good luck and sorry for that scratch, the first hurts the most!

hard to tell from the pic, if the chip is exposed to the metal, treat it w Por15 metal prep/rust check or equivalent product to protect. Of course don't worry if you are doing it soon. I got lazy after many years and would only touch up at spring only.

Dr. Color chip won't completely fix it, while it will make it less noticeable

^ damnit!..just went to dealer to try and purchase OEM touch up paint , code for YMB is B68..Dealer told me that it's not available from BMW yet!! Won't be available until this December!. What the heck?!... Can't believe BMW won't produce touch up paint until more than 1 yr after car release?...Any truth to this?

go to any auto paint shop and give your VIN, they will make you an aerosol or paint can to use. but for fun i called my dealer and they can have any color in one day so i think that dealer is full of BS ...

First thing you need to do is move out of So Cal. This would never have happened with the 2 bucket method. Sorry about the chip, but it's not too bad.

Ok so I got little impatient since the Dr. Color Chip repair kit I odered for $50 bucks won't ship until tomorrow, 7/8 from south Florida.. so I won't get it until early next week. I went down to my favorite body shop near my house, Premier auto collision, and my bud Jesus had some YMB touch up and hooked me up and touched up the chip up for free. I gave him $10 bucks for 5 minutes of his trouble
Anyways, here are the results. As expected, not perfect but I can live with it. Definitely better than before. You can still see the imperfections close up, but from 2-3 feet away, it's practically unnoticeable. I had some clear coat laquer from my Tiag touch up kit and clear coated it at home. I guess I'll store the Dr. Color Chip kit away in the garage for a rainy day...side note: notice how glassy CQuartz is. I'm very impressed and highly recommended.

Awesome ! thats the way to do it ! i just hope you let the paint dry for few hours before applying the clear. within few days/weeks, you'll even forget its there!

BTW, did you top CQ with their reload, or it is as is ? I am thinking about CQ UK for our harsh cold winters.

^thanks man! I have the reload spay bottle to " refesh " the CQuartz. Not sure if the detail shop who applied it topped it off after application. They said they prepped the car accordingly and followed all directions to the tee. So hopefully they did if required. I think I'm going to top it off with some reload this weekend!

In any case, whether they did or not, the car/colour looks awesome. From my reading the reload is like a quick detailing wax because topcoats (CQ) don't feel smooth or provide the slickness/shine that waxes do.

I think they must have applied the reload because it feels very smooth/slick..

I'd suggest putting some clear bra on your car now. maybe just edge strips on the doors.
