Transmission Type

Finally placed an order on a MY2016 SO/SO M4 and was looking at the order form regarding the transmission. In my MSRP options I have the M Doucle Clutch Transmission option but on the other side of the page it says the transmission is "DKG".

Anyone have any idea what that is? I remember the dealer having several options when selecting it on his computer but didn't think anything of it when I see the DCT MSRP option.

Most of the option details, and the (xxx) three digit option indicator codes are based on the option in the companies native German. Dual Clutch Transmission in German is something like (don't quote me on the spelling....) doppelkupplungsgetriebe. Some shit like that.

DKG = DCT when it comes to the M3/M4/M5/M6.

Not really that hard, getriebe is the only word that isn't an English cognate. Doppel=double. Kupplung=Coupling. So it's just a double coupling gearbox.

Thanks for the explanation - I don't speak German but wasn't sure on my spelling.

I knew doppel was double, and figured kupplung was related to the english clutch. The rest is transmission/gearbox by process of elimination.
