Possibly trading my f30 335 for a E9x m3. Advice?

Hey guys,

I emailed my sales guy about the two cars listed below. I am considering trading in my 335 for either of these if I get the right deal. I like both equally (for different reasons), but they aren't my perfect car, so I will have no problem walking away. What I want to know is, what do you consider a good deal with my trade in? I personally think it should be a straight across trade as my car has a higher blue and black book on both trade in and private party value. My car is also a CPO and these are not. I realize the chance of getting a straight trade is slim to none.

Specs on my car:
2012 335i Sportline
Tech pkg
Premium pkg
Cold weather pkg
comfort access
HK upgrade
8 speed
Sport pkg
32k miles
brand new Nitto Motivos

Here are the two cars I am considering....

http://www.bmwseattle.com/used/BMW/2...7abe31b981.htm

http://www.bmwseattle.com/used/BMW/2...0119eae363.htm

So....
Do you think I should be paying cash + my trade in for either of these?
What do you think would be a good deal?

I know, it looks amazing! I drove one with a carbon roof before I got my 335.
There are a few things I would change about both, but I would love to snag one of these if the deal is good enough.

It's better to tell us what he offered you so we can tell you if it's good or not. Now we have to judge based on some of your specs.

To me it seems like you don't really want an M3... You don't seem to excited to get one.

He will be giving me an offer today. I am excited to get one, I loved the one I drove before getting my 335, but it was 47k. These are much more attainable, but because they do not have all the options I want (80%), I have no problem waiting. That's why I want to know what a good deal would be on these + my trade in.

If you like the iDrive system at all for entertainment, I'd go with the 2009 for the upgraded CIC. It's not as nice or advanced as the version in the F-series but it is much better than the old CCC unit in the 2008. I now wish I waited for a 2009 for that very reason.

EDIT: I now see the coupe doesn't have iDrive at all so if you aren't worried about that I'd go with the 2008. I have a white 08 on fox red 6MT love everything except the iDrive.

I think both cars are way overpriced. I wouldn't consider either one. I paid $34k for my 09' E92 with 35k miles on it. Loaded, DCT, navigation, etc. etc. Outstanding condition. That dealer is asking much more for 2 much lesser equipped cars. No way.

Your car is worth high $30's, right? The 09 M3 is worth about $33k, the 08 even less, maybe $29k - $30k.

For this scenario I would sell the 335 myself and use the extra few grand for a third party warranty, after negotiating the price down on the sedan.

Another scenario would be to find an LCI, ZCP, etc. which can be had at similar prices to (edit: less than) what these cars are advertised for.

I checked out that sedan at Seattle BMW last week while my car was in for service. it's sweet. Love the color. But my impression is that Seattle BMW is consistently overpriced--and i've viewed every M3 they've had for like a year. That said, I have no idea how they're willing to deal. I like of of their sales guys--always friendly, liberal with teh test drives, very helpful even though I've never actually purchased a car there, etc. PM me for his name if you want.

Well considering the reply I got said he would love to sell me one, but I would lose too much money, I dont think they will be willing to come even close to a deal on either.

I unfortunately made the decision to buy a brand new Accord v6 early last year and traded that in for the 335 so I am upside down by quite a bit. Makes it tough to sell and start fresh. Definitely wont be making that mistake again.

So you essentially traded in a '14 Accord V6 for a '12 335, and now you are going even further back in the years for 08/09.

Bro...you are not making the smartest money decision....

I'd keep your current ride, unless you abso-freakin-lutely have to have a V8, at the expense of other enjoyable amenities that your 335 offers.

I agree with you about a bad financial decision on the first trade. I should have never bought the accord. Im not sure why years matter. Even a e90 335 is an upgrade over an accord. I won't be getting these as i was hoping to do an even trade for a car that is more fun and will hold value better.

Now I realize an even trade wouldnt even be a good deal so I will definitely hold on to the 335 for a year or two and get right side up on the financing.
Thanks for all the input. Moral of the story is I should never buy a new car as I like to try new cars too often.

I would pass on both. Why? Because you mentioned several times that they are not what you're really seeking. With an M3, SELECT, don't settle. Wait. Then wait some more. Until you find THE ONE. Then pull the trigger. The chit eating grin on your face each and every time you start it up and drive will convince you that you were smart to find THE ONE.
If you have to make the decision on one of these, go with the SS E90. Rarer. But for that logic, spend a few more $$$ and find a sweet 2011 E90 w/Comp that's SS or SG...they will hold their value down the road.
My two cents...

Be careful about asking people about pricing online, you won't always get realistic numbers. M3's are much cheaper in California than they are in Washington. When I go to sell my M3 I will be selling it at my residence up in Washington rather than down here in SoCal. On the flip-side cars like S5's, Evo's (basically anything AWD and a premium car) go for top dollar in Socal, and are cheaper in Washington.

Ever price out a Streetbike in WA. you're looking at $5-$7k for a 2008-2010 GSXR with 5000 miles on it, where as in SoCal you're looking at 7-9k for the same bike with 20k miles on it...

Obviously this doesn't hold true in EVERY single car sold, but sales stats don't lie. Figured I'd shoot you my 2-cents.

Like you said, im definitely not set on either. I like the idea of getting the perfect Comp Package car down the toad with all the options I want. That way I can sell my 335 private party and not lose my a$$. Thanks for the advice.

Good to know! I will take that into consideration in the future. Sounds like it may be worth finding one in Cali and driving it back up!

You are most welcome!
BTW, the "advice" I suggested to you is the same one that I took for myself...I waited and waited...must have looked at literally hundreds of M3's before I found the ONE...and when I saw my Garage Queen, I jumped on it. Perfect condition, every option you could think of and Space Gray to boot...what more could a guy ask for?
I know Flying Ace could suggest something here but we won't go into that

Sounds like an awesome car! I would love to have a ZCP car with a 6 speed manual. I have a JB4 installed on the 335, so it definitely isn't slow, but there is something about that amazing sound the v8 makes. Having an E36 M3 makes me feel like the 335 is a family sedan, and makes me want another M!
