Japanese 240E and the GTS DCT updates
Are these something I can get from someone and give them to a local tuner that has the Autologic device?
I have a bunch of local tuners here and none seem to have these files? So I don't know if these files are open to everyone or if people keep them locked up or something. I have flashed many non BMW cars before but I probably do not understand the whole process here with BMW so forgive me if I'm barking up the wrong tree. I'd like to get these flashed to my 2009 M3 and I am in New England. Just hoping to understand the process a little more as well. Thanks! PS I assume the Japanese 240E is pretty safe even though supposedly its more "aggressive"? |

Mike Benvo or Alex@alpine can probably do this. Both are vendors on this forum. They can do it remotely btw.
What's the key difference between US 240E and Japanese 240E? I heard it just runs leaner...so better MPGs?

I am not sure the difference between the 2, but 1 person said they were exactly the same and others swear that the Japanese version is way more responsive. Either way, I want it |

I have 240E as well, and I came from 80E, and it made a huge difference in throttle smoothness in low RPMs, which made the car more drivable in city/parking lot situations, and I got a slight bump in MPGs. Don't expect a serious bump in "power"...though there was a thread made with a dyno results of before and after with 240E.

I emailed Mike Benvo and he told he that he can't do a OEM ECU flash. He can only sell his tune.
I don't quite understand why, but he couldn't flash the OEM software for me. Maybe there's a restriction on who can flash the OEM software?

i think you might be mistaken. i've gotten the 240e update and gts dct flash from him, but didn't purchase his tune.

I think I saw a thread with +20WHP going to the 240E. But if I just got a MPG increase that would be awesome too. I also hate the DCT defaulting to S mode, the GTS flash should fix that (and make it smoother so I hear) I'll contact Mike and see what he can do for me. I already have the cable... However, US cars should only use US files as they will lose DTML (tank leakage) which other regions do not have. If a different file then that was loaded onto to DME is loaded (ie: Japan file on US spec car), this opens the possibility of creating other issues that can be expensive to fix.

Maybe in person. He can't do it remotely. I'm not in SoCal.

US Vehicles have a a DTML pump (#2) and part of EVAP, which pressurizes the fuel tank for emissions purposes.
EU spec vehicles do not have this, and software (and configuration) is completely different among the platforms. Those feeling "power" increases on the butt dyno are likely as a result to cleared adaptations, which will eventually return once miles are driven. Purely placebo.
