Trickle Charger anyone?

I'm gonna be storing my car for the winter and i was just wondering what the procedure is to use a trickle charger on the f80... i see the attachment points for the battery under the hood, but when i attach to these the trickle charger doesnt seem to work properly - is there a special procedure for the battery?

could these errors have something to do with what i read about the batteries only charging under coasting and BMW having the replace them at every service in the f10 m5's?

thanks for your help

Use the CTEK US Lithium Charger. Have been using it for about 6 months...works great.

Called CTEK prior to buying and they said it works with our Lithium battery in the F80/82

If parking for extended periods just disconnect the negative cable.

I have the CTek but not the car yet - I plan on installing the O-ring terminals on the under-hood positive/ground points and zip tying the wire under the hood lip. There is a weathertight connector there for the CT battery conditioner.

CTEK Li charger here as well. Not used yet but good feedback from other who have used it. Be sure you are using the correct charger for the type of battery installed.

You'll want to get the M8 O ring terminals. It comes with the M6 ones which isn't large enough to use on the Ground post.

Great tip! I had heard of this O-terminal being too small, but planned to heat/stretch the O-ring to fit, as I have done numerous times in the past with aftermarket audio installations. Glad you found and pointed this out as I didn't want to resort to that on this valuable of a car. Will order this part shortly!

Bumping an old thread. What's the window over which one requires a trickle charger? The longest my car sits is 2 weeks if at all. Depends on weather but never longer than 2 weeks. Do I still need this?

My F82's battery unexpectedly disconnected itself overnight, and my previous older car would go 2-3 weeks without being used and starts no problem.

If there is no parasitic drain, or its not parked in extreme cold, nor any gremlins that will drain it, I'd say LiFePO4 batteries should hold their charge long. But why come back to a potentially dead car, just buy it, hook it and forget it (unless of course you park in a public place)
