What's this button?

Looking at purchasing a car at a non BMW dealer long distance. I've looked in the manual online and can't figure out what this button is with the light above it. (Button just to the right of the sunshade button).

Thanks

Auto start stop. When it's off the engine will shut down every time you stop. Supposed to save gas. I never use it personally. Annoying as hell and I can't imagine it's good for the engine.

In the supplementary manual page 16 the only button on that row is #13 and that's the Coupe: Roller Sun Blind.

Thanks guys. I didn't know this engine would have an auto stop/start option but just did a search and that's what the button is.

The M3 never came with auto stop in the U.S. Unless someone here has one.

I was told never to push that button, when I asked why not they said it was the passenger eject button similar to the James Bond car

Sure they do. It was a feature later implemented after MY2011 IIRC
Plenty of cars have them stateside.

Started September 2010 production, aka 2011.5 model year.

Ahh that would explain it. Mine was built March April 2010, so I missed the boat.

Yep, auto stop/start. I tried using it once and found it completely annoying. If you get a DCT tune, it's completely disabled so you can turn off that light and it doesn't change a thing -at least the Dinan DCT tune

You didn't miss any boat. As others have said, it is incredibly annoying.

Isn't someone going to make a comment about how this button relates to releasing the hookers in the trunk?

Button is designed to disable trunk release when hookers are in stow. It also redirects air circulation from back seat to bypass through stow O2 port in trunk. Very convenient.

It wouldn't have the same effect not coming from you!

Yes they did. Mine is a 2011 and has it. Wish it didn't.

I read in the US you can get it coded so the last mode stays when starting next, i.e. stays shut off. Theres even a note to the dealers on this. Checked with the Swedish dealer, yep should work assuming I paid 350Euro for it...got used to turn it off first thing instead.

There's already a trunk release button for that. Mine has been coded to act in conjunction with my sleeping gas system just in case trunk passengers get a little unruly.

I was told this button adds 100 hp and that is why newer models are more desirable.
