Wrecked 2013 E93 (Need input)

Good morning Guys and Gals...

Been looking for MW E93 for a few weeks now. Finally found one with 11K miles on the clock with many nice OEM upgrades (Convenience Package, Cold Weather Package, upgraded sound, full leather, EDC, and Nav...poster says M Performance Exhaust but I don't see in the VIN lookup and have no pic to prove as of yet).
Pulled the CarFax and it says its been in an accident with front end damage but the airbags did not deploy. Now, I think I could get this car for around $45K. It's 800 miles from me so taking a quick drive to go see it is not possible.

I am trying to get in touch with the dealer that sold and serviced during the time of accident to see if they also repaired the front end. Maybe they'll help and tell me how bad or insignificant was the damage. The report stated the car was towed. Maybe that says something...maybe it doesn't.

To my questions:
Are there any ways to get information about the damage other than calling the dealership and asking if they repaired?

If the damage is fairly minor (Less than...say $5K) would you pursue?

I have a friend that owns a used car dealership and goes to auctions and can eventually find one (I hope) in the color I want wtih low mileage. Should I wait?

Thanks for your time,
Very impatient.

Before I bought my M3 I had a pre purchase inspection done at a dealership I selected. I'm not sure if this is common in USA, but if it exists I would definitely consider it.

Thanks Froglet. I will definitely get that done if I get closer to making an offer.

Carfax reports are basically an algorithm that makes assumptions on the type of accident you receive. individual accidents as you know can be fairly varied. worth trying to figure out just what happened.

Somehow, you've got to get your hands on the invoice from the repair showing showing every panel, piece, screw, nut and bolt that was repaired or replaced. With any luck, it will be very detailed. Being no expert, if it were me I would take it to a trusted dealer or mechanic to review so that you can get a handle on how extensive a repair was performed.

Yeah...called the dealership. They did not repair. A repair shop handled according to dealership (notes in service work when they had to do a front-end alignment right after accident repair complete). Have the name, but there are 7 different locations for this repair shop. One lady at a location was nice enough to see if she could call around and find out for me. Still awaiting return call...

The only problem is their privacy policy does not allow releasing private information to 3rd party individuals. Was basically told they cannot even tell me if the car was repaired at a particular location. However, a lady understood my dilemma and decided she'd sidestep the requirement and try and help me out...

I wonder if an accident can prevent potential extension of CPO or Maintenance warranties?

I agree with above comment. It's a huge expense on buying an M3! I'd wait and keep looking for a "cleaner" car. It took me 6 months and test drove about 8 M3's before purchasing! Worth it!

less than $2k pursuit should be considered.

Thanks. I am definitely on the fence. It is a risk but if I can get some information to tell me the damage was minor, getting a 2013 vert in mineral white with 11K miles for about $45K might be worth considering. But, again, only if I see the damage was minor.
Thanks for your input. I am a very impatient person so I sometimes need to put my impatience in check.

its a safe indication that if you can find out how much the repair was you can judge the severity. no structural damage is being fixed for a few hundred dollars, for example

I have purchased post accident cars a few times, including an 08 and 11. I had my body shop guy inspect both car. Assuming repairs done right then its just a cost analysis. Is saving 10k now worth the loss you will take when you sell. For me it got me into a car that I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. Also, the accident does not affect existing factory warranty (and I never had issues getting repairs on either M3).

Thanks to all for your comments. It is great to have many different opinions to take into consideration. We all may consider ourselves smart but sometimes it's easy to overlook the the obvious or forget an important point...so I appreciate the comments.

Totally with you Yellow. A '13 with 11k miles and right options is worth investigating. If the repair is proven to be well done I'd be good to go.

Good luck with shasing that info out!

I personally don't think 45K is a good price with an accident history, regardless of the severity. If you keep looking, I believe you could find one for the same amount w/o the ding on CarFax. The CarFax will always have it reported and will take a hit in the future when you sell it with that on there...
