Damage during shipping from ED to VDC
Well, unfortunate news.
After an incredible smooth process from the drop off on April 28th and the arrival at the VDC on May 22nd, i just learned that the car (M4 Vert, SS) has shipping damage on the driver door. The car has had a work order since May 27th and is in the 'paint shop' for damage to the door. The prep work is done and the car is expected to be released from the VDC by Tuesday PM. While its disappointing to find out (i handed the car to the ED Drop Off point with 40 miles and no damage), I am confident that BMW VDC will do an excellent job in the repair. As a result, the car is delayed at the dealership by at least 10 days. Anyone had ED damage that was repaired at the VDC and are happy / unhappy with the results?? |

oh damn, at least it isn't mw.
I would be very cautious with assuming they will do a good job with the repair. I had a mb dealer damage the front end of our e350 and do a shoddy job at their in house facilities. we complained, they had to do it again.

damage in transit actually happens a lot unfortunately but don't worry BMW will make it look brand new. Most of the time the damage is not as bad as it sounds, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks Golfrr - my SA also confirmed that their work is impeccable so i have to trust it for now until i see it. Called BMW HQ and they were incredibly accommodating and stated that if i was not satisfied, they'd work with me to resolve it.

I've been to the VDC in Jersey City, NJ and their paint facilities and skills are unbelievable. My guess is that you'll never be able to find any evidence of the repair.

UPDATE:
FINALLY the car has left the VDC (last week Wednesday (June 10) - they also had to replace the right front rim (WTF! do they do with these cars during shipping?!). Anyways - the car should be delivered in Atlanta on Monday - yeah - and i will pick 'm (no pun intended) up in a week from now as I am abroad as of this writing. |

At least you have a date to get your car. My car was dropped off to the VPC on the 26th of May and the status has been unavailable since. BMW NA told me on Friday that I had a delivery date of June 8th. It's the 14th and still no info from CA or the 800#.

I did ED in 2005 on an E90 330i, and during shipping back to the States, they apparently hit very bad seas and a couple cars got loose. My car was stuck at the VPC in NJ for about 2 extra weeks to have the front bumper, hood, and both driver's side doors replaced and painted.
I was soo ticked off at the time, but stuff happens. The dealer made it right by giving me a loaner for those extra few weeks. |

OP, DocWeatherington is correct about the VDC. It's a mini BMW factory and they can handle almost anything. It also won't show up on any carfax report.
They don't rush and may sometimes have to wait for parts to arrive, but you'll never be able to tell what was fixed.

Neither the SA nor the General 800# can provide anything more than anticipated ship date which is not accurate at all for ED. PM me for their number. They have been good to work with so far. |

I feel your pain. My front bumper in the f80 was damaged and my car sat for a month at VDC in NJ It was a grueling wait with little info but the repair was flawless and was compensated fairly for my troubles.
