Hoarding and missing the old M3
I don't know if I manufactured memories (since I haven't driven an e46 M3 since trade-in day in '08), a true desire to ring out that raspy inline six again or some combination but I find myself missing my e46 more and more.
I went back through a box of old stuff - hoarded M3 junk as my wife calls it - and I can't stop thinking about reloading on a later model ZCP e46....and keeping - aka hoarding - the '08 m3 and related "junk" of course. |

I'm planning on adding an e46 m3 down the road too. I miss the raspy S54 I had in my Z4M Coupe

I am w/you guys. Patiently waiting for that ONE car coming onto the market.
I don't think that day passes by w/o me thinking of 2006 IB car I fell in love with (unseen). "Patience is a virtue" and "chase is better than a catch" cliche phrases keep resonating in my head, when I pull myself down to earth after day-dreaming sessions. It is like having hole in my heart. I just miss my E46 M3. So much.

OP, I'll do a straight trade of a E46 M3 ZCP for your E92 M3 ZCP. Deal?
**crickets** ..didn't think so, there's a reason why you sold. Nothing wrong with being nostalgic, but move forward, onward and upward!

I miss mine too. I haven't driven a car since that provides the same level of feedback and road feel. It was the right size too. Vanos and subframe failure was a constant worry when you weren't driving, but when you were driving it was amazing. The E9X is a better car for 90% of my driving, but the other 10% makes me miss the E46.

I am selling my 2011 E93 M3 for a E46 with smg and higher mileage.
It will cost about a quarter of what I paid for 45k miles on my E93 and I will get double mileage. I think the E46 M3 is unrefined and drives better. I almost traded my E93 M3 with 62k miles for a 06 m3 coupe with 5k miles but my car is still worth more.

OP. ... I to sometimes miss my e46 traded for a used Z4 in 2008 then a new Z4 that gave me RFT and cracked wheel problems. Then several used and new e92 later I am now in a C6.3 AMG love it, like you I still miss the E46.

I really missed my old e46 after trading it for an e92 in 2011. It had its own thing going on, different feel, sound, looks that I had been calibrated to. I payed a premium for a low mileage e46 from Enthusiast Auto a couple of years ago to rekindle the old flame. It became apparent how much better the e9x is though. I still love the looks and engine character of the e46 but the e9x is on another level. Even though I've come to appreciate the newer tech and performance, not to mention lower maintenance, the e46 will always be a fond memory.

The e46 M3 was a wow car at the time, the same as the e9x is. The e9x trumped the wow factor on the e46 when I tried to go back to it but...I'll always remember the impact the e46 had on me from 2006-2011.
