Nurburgring on Sunday??

I am working on my ED plan. (July 8-15th). My question is is the ring on Sunday a bad idea. I have seen a few posts that say it gets crowded on the weekends. Is that a problem?? All I'm looking for is a safe lap not looking to set a new lap record

2nd question do driving sims like GT and Forza help. If I memorize the track on the game will I be well prepared in real live??

I can't speak to Sunday but I two points -

1- my understanding from race car drivers interviews and such is it takes years to memorize that track.

2 - If youre doing a safe lap, why do you need to memorize it...we're on to you

I have ED that same week 7/7 pick up

I was there on a Sunday- it was one of the most amazing car shows I've ever witnessed. The track is crowded no doubt but the parking lot scene makes up for it.

Knowing whats coming up next is a great benefit - even if you only want to have a more comfortable drive by avoiding some of the "pucker factor"...

I run "Assetto Corsa" on the PC (Steam) to help memorize and review the Ring. It is really amazing how much you can remember just from running a simulator. After only 20 or 30 laps you will start to remember the most "interesting" sections... And its typically the most "interesting" sections that will get you...

...back for real in October!

I went on Sunday and Sunday has the longest opening hours compare with 2 hours on the weekdays. It does pack there but should be fine if you are not trying to set a new lap record. Just look for the rear view mirror and let those semi-professional pass you.

I have ED that same week 7/7 pick up
I also pickup on 7/7. Will be heading to the ring over 2 days. I'll be there on 7/8. Thought about doing the taxi thing but doesn't seem like they will have it on that day.

Any thoughts on how crowded it would be on a weekday?

Then off to Amsterdam and drop off the next day.

It does get crowded on Sundays, but nothing crazy. There are countless videos online of Touristenfahren Sunday on YouTube. When there are accidents, that is what causes the massive traffic as they will shut down the track for an hour to clean up, then everyone is thirsty to race. Early in the morning is the best bet. Memorizing the track through simulators is a great idea and will certainly help. As long as you take an 80% few laps, then you can turn it on as you will gain confidence quickly. That's how I did it.

I'm at the ring now

July 12, 2015 Sunday 8:30am. looks like it will be busy during the day but only a few cars here now. Last night was packed but I was able to do 2 laps with no problem.

PS: This was my first time at the ring. I have been training on the Playstation with Forza 4 for the past 2 months. Two laps everyday. Others may disagree but I felt the track is easier in real life and I felt well prepared. In the game the communication with the car and the track is lost.

justin4u,

Did you get the HK speaker or stopwatch at pick-up or are both complimentary gifts discontinued like reported by others?

Also, how many laps did you do? I bought a 4 lap card and plan to do 2 laps, take a short break, then the final 2 laps.

I did 3 laps and decided not to press my luck. I got to the level of comfort that I wanted to push the car more but I am still under 1200 miles

Hey!, I didn't get the watch and I was there the same day as you.

I should go back on Saturday for it. Was it just a certificate? Did you get the watch?

I got the certificate I still need to pick up the watch maybe tomorrow. I sort of asked for it when she was programming my navigation I told her to put in the address for the watch. That's when she gave it to me
