question about ordering 2016
Hi guys,
This is my first car that I have not bought off the lot. I just paid a deposit yesterday for a 2016 m4 that is supposed to go into production in summer (july august?). Anyways, I was wondering ballpark when I would receive my car. The sales guy didn't really make that clear. PS would I be able to notice a huge difference from my current 2013 335xi? Thanks! |

As you're in Canada, I don't know. But in the U.S., the time from when production starts to the car arriving at the dealer could be anywhere from 6-10 weeks. They key is to get an allocation for production. Some sales folks will promise you an allocation, but if you don't know anything about the process, they will pawn your allocation to another buyer and push your's back.

Also ask him if there's anybody ahead of you. If your car isn't going to have any individual options (exterior paint or interior) you should get your car in late September (if you have one of the first allocations in July from your dealer) if you're on the east coast, or mid October if you're on the west coast. The further out your car starts, add a month (August build = October/November, September build= November /December) However if you add any individual options it will add 4-6 weeks. Oh and if there are any part delays (the 2015s had a pretty massive delay due to the carbon fiber shortage which took some cars 6 months!)

As already mentioned, your allocation/build week is key ... once your dealer has an allocation for you, they'll be able to give you the production week and estimated date of delivery. You haven't specified where you are in Canada, but 6-10 weeks after the car is built seems to be about the average delivery time.
Here's my timeline to give you a rough idea (my car is currently somewhere between Halifax and Toronto, hoping for delivery later this week): Ordered for mid April build: Feb 21, 2015 Car started production: April 6, 2015 Car finished production: April 16, 2015 Booked at port: May 6, 2015 Recieved at terminal: May 11, 2015 Loaded on ship: May 11, 2015 Unloaded in Halifax: May 19, 2015 Loaded on train: 1-5 days Arrived in Toronto: 2 days Loaded on truck: 1-5 days Arrived in Ottawa: 1 day Ready for delivery: 1-2 days

The key is to ensure your CA actually has an allocation. Until then, in my opinion, they are selling you air.
I would very directly ask them if they have an allocation. If they say yes ask them for the build number.

Does that mean people who ordered 2016 should get a production number next week? (depending on allocation)
