Quiet rattle (from clutch or tranny?)

With my windows up and no music playing, I hear a quiet rattle somewhere forward of where I'm sitting. It's barely noticeable. It's not a consistent or periodic kind of sound, rather one that jumbles all over the place. Play music or lower the windows, and it gets drowned-out.

I realized last night the sound goes away if I depress my clutch or altogether let the car out of gear.

Anybody?

Does it happen when you're sitting in neutral? Mine has been making the same noise since I got it. Took it in to the dealer, said it was input shaft bearing making the noise and that it was normal.

Mine has always had this. Sounds like a bad input shaft bearing. M3 tranny mounts made it louder.

I have read this is normal and has to do with the dual mass flywheel. My 08 has always done it.

flywheel! have heard this on many different manual BMWs....had it on my 135is and now on my 1M as well.

pressing the clutch in usually makes it go away. it's normal to have it though.

I notice a slight vibration from the tranny the causes my shifter to vibrate slightly. Tonight coming home from work I heard a quiet rattle but it sounded like it was from the shift boot or trim surrounding it. When I put my hand on it, it went away.

Not sure if it's the same thing causing the shifter to vibrate and/or causing the rattle sound.

I've always thought it was the fly wheel as well. I can hear it in between 2k-3k rpm with windows up and the radio off. I have a DCT. Should I be worried about anything?

I noticed this on mine after swapping trans mounts. Dealer
Says it is normal and it's the flywheel and input shaft hearing noises. Nothing to worry about though I find it very annoying. I've heard it a lot worse in a friends car. Waiting for something to break at this point lol.
