Question Airbag recall

Are our 1ers affected?

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...tive/27584545/

By VIN comes up as invalid when I try enter it at http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...eoverride=true. Possibly because my car is for the Canadian market? I haven't found the equivalent page at bmw.ca but I am registered and the "My BMW" section with my VIN shows 0 recalls. I assume my car is ok based on that.

Curious if any other model years are affected.

More info http://www.safercar.gov/rs/takata/index.html

Also you may be able to look up your VIN on all makes/models here https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/ Mine shows invalid here as well.

The announcement was just made yesterday. It will take some time for the auto manufacturers to see which of their vehicles have that particular bag installed and get the VIN numbers and then the info out to the dealers/public.

Oh great, I spend half my days replacing recalled airbags on Hondas already.

Quote:
Officials say there is a link to high humidity and moisture, though the precise cause of the problem is not known. Foxx said the government has "a lot of work to do" to figure out what is causing them to explode, but said it can't delay the recall.
Stupid government. They don't know why it is happening, but let's replace all the airbags anyways. It might fix it.....

Garage List
2009 BMW 128i  [9.80]
"Takata has been working to dramatically boost production of replacement parts. The company said in March it had boosted production to 450,000 replacement kits per month, up from 350,000 in December, and expects to be producing 900,000 kits per month by September. Honda announced last year it also would buy additional replacement inflator parts from Swedish supplier Autoliv."

Well lets hope that when they're producing 900,000 kits per month that they're the same quality as when they were producing 350,000 ...

I can hardly wait..........

This has been going on for YEARS for us.

On the 1.7EL's (Acura version of the Civic), there was a recall on the driver's airbag, then the recalled parts got recalled, then the recalled recalled parts got recalled for an inspection, then the recalled recalled recalled parts got recalled, now they are recalling the passenger airbag inflators.

I feel like a bomb tech some days.

NOT our cars

I've just seen info that indicates recall is for 3 series, 2000-2006 so that's E46.
