I need help with allocation and price negotation

Hey guys,

Like most of you, I want to build the car to my liking. I would consider a car on the lot if it was an extraordinary deal but I still prefer my own build out. I hear some of you guys getting invoice + $1000 (which I think is fair b/c dealer will also get a manufacturer hold back). Did you guys cold call various dealers to get allotments or did you work with dealers you've had long term relationships.

I am thinking about ordering a 2016 M3 or 2017 (hopefully we will get competition package, ZHP or something like that).

Thanks for the advice!

Personally, I sent emails to over 20 dealers in my region. I didn't call and didn't provide them with my direct contact info until I saw they were willing to be aggressive.

PM me if you'd like and I'll send you the email template I created. I ended up landing a deal with an in-state dealer around $1,000 over invoice.

I ordered from a dealer in California.

The dealerships in south florida would not give any sort of a good deal.

I understand everyone wanting deals on these cars now, just be prepared to have difficulty with getting that 1000 over. There's very few allocations out there and no dealer is willing to give them up; demand is high so you may need to rethink the deal you're getting. Also if you really want an exceptional experience sometimes it's worth a little more; I think we provide an exceptional experience throughout the process and I can say that we will never be the 200 over invoice on M car dealer.

I assume you are talking before incentives? With 2000 in potential incentives 200 over invoice is nothing.

I always ask for 500 over invoice and base rate on any lease, but for certain cars I adjust the over. For the M, I adjusted to 1000 over pre incentives.

200 over invoice without incentives is a stretch to say the least. Makes little sense for the dealer on a high demand car.

Not the case for a 2016. I have 3 local dealers willing to deal between $750 and $1200 over invoice. There will always be dealers who don't budge and even charge over MSRP with claims of high demand Fortunately for them there are enough morons who can't wait or are too lazy to shop around and pay over MSRP.

By the way, are you a dealer?

I hope you are talking Philly area dealers because I live in Dover, DE. I doubt the dealer closest to me (Milford, DE), would go invoice + 1000.

Geographically, Philly has an excellent location It has as the advantage of many dealers in the tri state area and extending south to MD as well. There is plenty of competition around. I consider anything within 150 miles local to me as I can pick up the car from any of these locations without requesting a transfer to a local dealer. There are well over 2 dozen dealers to chose from

Yes actually within driving distance of you. I don't know what 16 availability will be because we still don't have allocation but I can verify that we have deposits on the production spots already. Currently only 39 production spots for 15's in the country.

I would talk to your local dealer if you already have a relationship. Even if you don't, I tend to give the local dealer first crack because it's the most convenient. Make sure the dealer knows you are serious and that you understand the numbers and you want their best price and effort. You can also let them know you are going to compare their deal to others. Whatever you do, make sure you are comfortable with whoever you go with because saving even $1-2k is not worth a bad experience or mistakes.

What dealership is that? I probably reached out to a CA there.

You sound like a dealer and your statement is definitely contradictory what others are experiencing.

There are bunch of cars out on lots and demand isn't anything special.

Paying MSRP for these cars is just genius!

not sure how it is where you are from, but around here there are hardly any m3, and most m4 have sunroofs

he never mentioned msrp, but just not to expect $200 over invoice on a car thats in high demand with low production

I never mentioned paying MSRP, but like any business in order to provide a level of service that you expect when you have a 70-80K car it costs us money. Just to put it in perspective we spend 15k a month for gas in our loaners that we give when you get that car serviced. And everyone here does this to make a living and pay bills just like I'm sure you do in your business. We want the deal to be fair to you but also fair to us and demand therefore plays a roll. We do this because we LOVE BMW and everyone who I know wants one thing, the customer to be happy.

Both.
The former keeps the latter honest.

Don't count on any sort of comp or ZHP packages. Why do you even need them?

If highly under-rated 425hp doesn't float your boat, you are in the market for a 600+ hp car, and that will take you to another marque altogether.

On the other hand, if you are "thinking" or ordering "2017" MY, why not add 2018, '19. and '29 to the list? I'm sure '29 M3 will be faster!

I got 2 dealers to agree to 4% off of MSRP by telling one that the other had offered me that and would he match, then I had to go back to the original dealer (who never offered 4% off) and he agreed to the 4% the other had agreed to. I thought that was quite a coup for me.

How do you negotiate against invoice. Do you know what the invoice price is or you just tell them you want to pay invoice + X?

It's been very arduous trying to get an order in. I had a dealer who supposedly found a 2015 M3 earlier this week close enough to what I wanted and was unaccounted for. He called me Tuesday night to tell me it was damaged at port, got backed in, 2 door damaged and they wouldn't take it. He apologized profusely and promised to get me in front of the line for a 2016 order. I am at about 60/40 believing / not believing that story but it is what it is.
