Rear Wheel Bearing Failed
So the last few weeks I have noticed a whining noise coming from my right real wheel. Really sounded like a tire noise, but I jacked up that side of the car and spun the wheel. It seemed to be ok, no noise or resistance that seemed unusual. So I figured I maybe had a bad tire. I was due for an oil service so took it to my independent and asked him to check. Just got the verdict, bad bearing.
Have not heard or seen anybody else with this issue on the forum. My car does have 80K miles on it, but I really would have thought the bearing wouldn't go out that soon. Anybody else had this issue? |

My 2011 135i had a rear wheel bearing replaced by warranty @29K miles. and the stock m sport wheels and tires were on the car with no marks or damage, so not because the previous owner did something to cause it...

Check the disc (or rotor as you call in the US) isnt rubbing against the back plate...a slight build up of rust on the outer edge can cause identical symptoms. Ive had this on a few occasions, last one being my Lexus where they changed the bearing only for them later to tell me it was the back plate rubbing..

My left rear failed at 162,000 k. when I took it apart, all the bearings fell out on the ground. Please don't leave it as long as I did. But the good news is that it was easy to repair.
