I've been lurking around for some time while trying to determine my next vehicle purchase. Having owned a 1976 2002 and 1989 E30, my choices came down to E46M3 or 135i. Chose the latter for various reasons - flying to pick it up Monday - 2012 Lemans Msport 6sp. Looking forward to "bonding" with the car on the 400 mile drive home. Thanks to everyone for their unsung influence and advice in this decision. Hope to be able to contribute one day.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase. Pics ASAP!
Be careful getting to know your car on the way home. Lemans Blue is the same color as mine and is an awesome color. Good choice.

I had the same experience buying my car long-distance (flew to get it, drove it home). Welcome to the party, and enjoy your new car!

Had a great drive back home after picking up the car Monday evening. 2012 CPO 135i 6sp - 10,810 miles. Car looks showroom new. Very pleased with every aspect of the car. Wasn't sure about the color but pictures really don't do LMB justice. One of the nice add-ons by PO was the clear bra across the front. Made cleaning the bugs and road grime a breeze and prevents minor rock rash. After the 400 mile drive, I feel I've learned much about the car. One of the surprises was the 30.7 avg mpg. Mostly interstate 70-80mph. Had a chance to push the car a bit thru the mountains of NW Arkansas as well. I came to understand why everyone here loves their cars. I look forward to learning more about it in the future.

Beautiful color. Welcome to this forum.
Many people went through the same decision struggle as you did for these two classics. The E46/M3 is still a very potent machine if you intend to visit the track often. It likes to live in the 4000-8000 RPM range. Less modifications are required to make it track worthy. The E82/135i has gobs of torque, out of the box, and comes alive from 2500 -5500 RPM, making it a very potent street machine. It offers a myriad of possibilities for you to build upon, including power gains that more affordable than on the E46/M3. You have a little more work to do to (suspension bits, front brake cooling, etc) to make a E82 chassis track worthy. You will find lots of good info and suggestions in the "Track / Autocross / Dragstrip / Performance Driving" sub-forum, if you care to go down that road. No need to modify anything if you intend on seldomly visiting the track (lapping or autocross). "Upgrade the driver first" by joining Driver Education events.

This is not a car, it's a child that is loved and adored. It's what you will look back at when walking into the grocery store. It's the reason you open the garage door one more time before you go to bed.
It's the best BMW since the E30.

DCT trans take away an element of driver error. I prefer my 6MT, and I wouldn't have my car any other way!
