M HUD RPM Display

maybe my eyes are getting old.. But it's hard to see the rpm change on the HUD while its in M mode. Anyone else with the same issue?

I'm think it may be hard to implement dynamic changes for HUD for example the rpm. I personally would appreciate if gray can be changed to something else say blue. Or just have the rpm displayed as a number. Ex: 7649 in blue or red.

Anyone with Connection that can forward this to bmw would be nice.

I finally found this thingy everyone here keeps talking about and I still have no clue why that is needed. A hundred miles in any car should teach the driver to know when the time to shift in different gears/situations is. I could be just me, but I pay zero attention to the instruments, I try to listen to the car itself. Besides, cops tell me if I've been speeding.

It's not about knowing when to shift.. It's about making something that exist in the car work better

This! I mainly just look at the HUD for MPH and to get the speed limit.

It's good for track days when other noisy cars around you drown out the sound of your own engine. I just picked up my M3 on Friday and noticed the faint rpm display in M mode too. And yeah, having numbers above or below the graph as a quick reference for where you are in the range would be a nice addition as well as the ability to change the colors and contrast. I was hoping there might be something in the menus for this...

The only time ive driven my car according to speed limit was last Saturday, because I really couldn't use the clutch (I fucked up my ankle). I scared the hell out of my father-in-law, he's not used to going slow while I'm behind the wheel.

"Anna we can stop and call my son to come and get us. Seriously. Just stop, this is bad, you're in the wrong gear"

Nice.

Sorry to hear you hurt your ankle.

Yes, the Gray/white HUD seems like an oversight. The one in my e60 M5 was green, yellow and red for redline. It was actually usable because I could see it.

And, as the JYTsky said, it is about making things work. I was hoping it was changeable too.

I agree, it's hard to see. Shift lights are ok, but the bar is barely visible.

Ok, so you too never listen to music on blast or ever go to a track.....because if you did any of those two things you would not know when to shift by sound because you would not clearly hear you're engine.
Also, when the engine is at the top of the power band, the engine sound varies very little....for example shifting from 4th to 5th doing a 120-130mph doesn't change the sound much and if you're extremely preoccupied controlling the car, their is this thing at high stress levels called auditory exclusion.....look it up, happens to soldiers and race car drivers all the time.
Although I'm sure the op isn't referring to something so extreme, I think the HUD M Mode could have a deeper contrast or stronger colors.

Even, professional race car drivers use a tach, so this business of "hearing" the engine is just sounding cool and hip on the forums I think. I mean even a boost gauge would be awesome....
Instruments are there to make the driving experience more accurate, intelligent, and manageable under varying conditions. If you don't have a clue why someone might need something.....sometimes it's just a matter of thinking outside the(your) box a little.

Not to mention wearing a helmet makes hearing the engine a bit more difficult.

I do wish the colors or at least the contrast could be adjusted.

The contrast can be adjusted, however it doesn't do much good in bright sunny weather. The colors kind of wash out....look into your settings in the iDrive and see if it might work for you. Polarised lenses doesn't help the issue either in my case.

I've had mine since August so the motions are pretty automatic now. I have no time even to dream about tracks, but I compensate with night time milk runs. Sure, my way lacks the pinpoint accuracy you guys must have in shifting but I'll be listing the wrong hud colors in my list of excuses for being late from returning home. It must be worth hours.

Lolsss, life of a mom and late night milk runs.....it could be a lot worse though. You could be on a minivan forum yapping about how the auto sliding door is too slow some crap like that.

I actually find it really useful for roll races. DCT and near-perfect shift points are a huge advantage.

Yup, life of a mom...

Still, what you guys have as your track car/ the desired vehicle for your polishing fetish, I consider my school bus. And we are never late and I'm happy to report milk comes nice and fast through the state lines at three am. I haven't had a pint of warm milk at the end of a run ever...

Subscribed. I agree. The RPM is very difficult to see in daytime.

Yellow or blue color would be great.

I wonder if there is a software code option.

Dan.
