How do you remove this fastener??
Hey guys I'm trying to remove the drivers footwell interior piece that covers the top of the footwell around the pedals, I got the 3 T20 torx screws off but there's still this one fastener on the corner that has no way of removing, it has a completely flat head with no indentations. Anyone know how to take it out? I've even tried brute force but it wont budge and as you can see I've already nicked it up. Thanks in advance

You are dealing with something like this. Pull out the center portion to release the fastener.

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah had a feeling it was something of 2 piece fastener. I don't have a trim remover so I went back and used a small pair of scissors to improvise and finally got it out.

That appears to be the same kind of fastener used to secure body parts on my Suzuki VStrom (and on many other vehicles). If so, to remove you push the center portion in, then pull it out by pulling on the outer portion. Once removed, you reset the fastener by pushing the center portion through outer piece so that the head is projecting. Insert the assembly into the holes in the trim pieces being secured, then push the center portion of the fastener so it is flush with the outer portion.
These fasteners work by expanding the outer sleeve when the head of the center piece is flush with the head of the outer sleeve, much like a wall anchor. When the center portion is moved past this point, in either direction, the outer sleeve collapses so it can be removed or inserted into the hole of the trim piece being secured. |
