Finally joined the party - 128i in my driveway!
2009 Space Gray with Coral Red interior
6MT with Premium Package and that's all! What a light, nimble and fun car. I had to drive about an hour and a half from my house to get it and it took me all day with the traffic+ dealership stuff + waiting for it to be detailed but wow was it worth it. Even though I'm tired I just want to run back outside and go drive it around some more. It's a feeling that is impossible to explain to non-car people but the 1 is absolutely a car for people who enjoy driving. I told my wife that is was less of a sports car than the G37 that I replaced but more of a driver's car. She humored me and acted like she understood. |

Congratulations and welcome aboard. I recently played passenger in a 6MT G37S and it was a nice ride, much different than I expected. What are the key differences between those cars that made you choose the 128i?

128i is an excellent car. Ditch the run flat tires for the non-run flat, and you'll have an even sweeter and smoother ride.

The G37 has a 61/39 front/rear weight distribution and is much more of a handful on a twisty road. To me, it felt more like work than fun to be smooth in the corners even though the car handles well in terms of absolute numbers. The VQ motor is also quite thrashy with a lot more NVH than the BMW I6, especially as you rev it on up. And you will want to rev it on up because that's where it makes most of its power. I chose the 128i because I like light, nimble cars than handle well. The 128i is very close to 50/50 weight distribution and feels far more "tossable". The BMW does that but is also quiet and refined enough for every day use. After coming from the heavy G37 the 128i feels like a wide-receiver whereas the G37 was a linebacker. They are both athletes competing on the same field but they go about their business very differently. One more note about the G37 coupe: For such a large car it really doesn't have a lot of usable space. The backseats are small and the trunk is tiny. The BMW has more usable back seats (especially headroom) and a much better trunk. And for the kicker, when I called my insurance agent this morning the newer BMW is actually going to cost me $15 less a month to insure! |

It's inevitable.
You WILL find your favorite curves in whatever roads/highways you travel to/from work or frequent destinations. And...you WILL ACCELERATE THROUGH those curves, in complete control, and smile...because you can. A toast...to "slight body-roll." |
