Do People High Beam You A Lot?

I don't know why but I get High-beamed all the time in my 1.
Not sure if the xenon lights are just really bright or if they just need to get adjusted downward.
Haven't had this issue with my e36 or e46.
I just thought it would be interesting to see if this is common or not with the 1-series lights

I cranked my lights way up vertically above the factory position so I could see better using the adjustment screw on the top of the housing and I still never get flashed.

Has never happened to me either.

Do you have AHL?

Maybe one of the ride height sensors is broken? The links that connect the sensor to the suspension arms can seize and then break.

Did you change your angel eyes? One of my friends cars that has aftermarket angel eyes looks like it has high beams on all the time.

^ Hmmm as a matter of fact I did change my angel eyes to white instead of that dull yellow.... that could be it but i'm not sure how those halo rings could be that bright to other drivers when they seem pretty normal to me as is (brightness)

Could simply be a friendly warning of a cop/speed trap up ahead which would give you enough time to slow down.

Happens to me all the time. Had my headlight level checked at the dealer and it's spot on. I live in Germany and its very serious here. Stock bulbs, no coding. IDK what it is.

IF people are flashing you... your headlights are too high. Just bc the dealer checked them doesn't mean they are set up right.

I would park next to a wall or garage door(2 feet away) and put some black tape(horizontally) on the wall where the headlight beams are. Then back up 25 feet and see where the headlights shine. They should be UNDER the tape line.

Or just park on a flat surface/street with your headlights on... then walk 60 feet away and look at your headlights. They should be level and not blind you.

my car coded with the euro AHL program...
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...php?p=14141403

Note: I also had my halo's coded to be brighter with OE bulbs... so thats why they are so much brighter when I first turn on the headlights in this video. My driver's side light now moves further LEFT with the euro AHL coding.

Here are some videos on how to use the wall method to adjust your headlights...

Also... IF you are lowered you should adjust your headlights. Be aware that after a few weeks/months.. the new springs will sag or take a lower set. So you might need to adjust the headlights twice.

Spot on info from Dackelone.

I've high beamed other drivers before for having improperly adjusted and/or illegal/too bright headlights and they usually are too dense to understand the message and just high beam back- letting me know they don't have their brights on. I want to commend the OP for taking notice of the headlight issue.

I got high beamed all the time when I had my dealer adjust my lights up some. For me it was a safety factor as I couldn't see that far down the road. My Ford Focus had better distance illumination than my 1 did to let you know how bad it was for me. When the dealer adjusted my lights, they went a bit too extreme and I was illuminating the second floor of people's houses when I was driving through my neighborhood. It was nice for me as I can really see far but people were not happy with me. Many high beams from oncoming traffic and a couple of middle finger salutes.

I went back to the dealer and had them readjust them. The second time, the dealer adjusted the lights back to factory specs and again my distance visibility was nil. I went back a third time and my service adviser adjusted my lights. This time he got them spot on. I can see far and I don't get high beamed any more.

For me the factory spec, just doesn't work. Not sure if my height has anything to do with it as the top of my head is only a couple of inches away from the headliner and I have to some times duck a little to see past the rear view mirror in that direction.
