Automatic Shift Knob Trim Removal

The metal coating on this shifter was bubbling, so I figured I'd see if I could get the trim piece off.

With some plastic trim tools, I did get it off. It seems the button assembly is meant to come out first, as it kind of holds the top in, but I haven't figured out how to get it out yet. Not getting the button out resulted in slightly breaking the smallest two slide tabs.

I have the carbon interior trim kit so I may go that route. I'll follow up when I make a decision or get the button out.
