ED - 2033 KM trip: will the VDC do my 1,200 mile service?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone exceeded the 1,200 mile mark while on their ED. As it happens, I will be at about 1,200 miles when the car is returned in Munich and was wondering if BMW would do my service automatically at the VDC or if I would have to take it to the dealership when it gets to the US.

Any experiences you have might have had with this?

I doubt the VDC will do it, it would cause a strain with the dealers since it's money in the pocket for them. If I were you I would contact my re-delivery dealer and ask them to do the service before releasing the car to you.

Oh, ok, thanks!

I thought that the 1,200 miles service was covered by BMW and the customer did not have to pay for it...

I am not doing PCD, I am just sending the car back to the dealership. I just don't know if I need to notify anyone so that I don't have to come back to the dealership once I receive the car.

Make sure and schedule it ahead, wherever it may be. I scheduled mine along the route on the drive back home from PCD but the dealer was out of F80 oil filters. No idea why they didn't ensure they had it in stock for the time I made my appointment, but apparently the inventory can dwindle very easily on the filters depending on where you are. Reserve one if you have to. Luckily a dealer an hour away had one and they were able to get me in the same day for break-in service on my drive back.

Thanks for the tip!

Did you have to pay for the service or was it included with the car?

You don't. But BMW pays the dealership for the work done at the 1,200 mile service.

No prob

Break in service and anything else on the schedule for regular service is covered by BMW. I plan to do oil changes in between the 10k mi/ 1 yr intervals on my own dime though.

My car was at 1150 miles when I dropped it off.

Do you know if I can ask PCD to do it before delivering the car to me or will I have to book a separate appointment nearby?

If so, any recommendations in the SC area?

Can't help you with dealership experiences near Greenville since I still had a few hundred miles to go and ended up doing mine in Alabama. I don't think you should have a problem getting it done at a dealer near the PC though... just make sure they have filters and the drain cap that needs to be replaced.

Where did you drop off? They are supposed to put a piece of paper in the car that says to keep the plates and stickers, at least in the Munich drop off.

Who did the service, was it the VPC or your local dealer?

Yep, the sign asking them not to remove stickers and plates was there (confirmed by person dropping the car off), but BMW does not guarantee that they will follow instructions (mentioned on the BMW ED webpage)

My plates were removed but they left them in the trunk.

The service was done in the VCD. I know because my service advisor told me.

If your car is near or over 1200 miles, the VPC will do the 1200 mile service. A few days after it clears the VPC, you can call your dealers service area and they can confirm if you give the last 7 of your VIN.

I actually went to BMW for my parents car and an Service Advisor showed me on his ipad that my 1200 mile service was completed. I'm picking up my car on November 2nd at the Performance Center.
