Stock 6mt m3 vs. tuned Audi rs7

While driving in Jersey yesterday a tuned rs7 pulled up alongside and in front of me. Matte-gray wrapped, obvious exhaust with some/all cats deleted, I believe an APR sticker on it indicating who tuned it. (Also a tuna, no crust sticker on it)

Finally lined up at a stoplight though it went green before I could get ready to launch.

Nonetheless, I've never seen anything launch or take off like that on the street. I'm guessing that's what >650hp and >650tq looks like on an AWD platform.

Needless to say, my crappy launch didn't help, but he shot away from me like I was in a kia sedona and had mistaken the gas and brake pedal.

I backed off by about 60mph, so not a true race by any means, but I feel comfortable stating that is the fastest street car I've ever come across when it comes to real world speed (i.e. he's always going to have lots of traction)

I saw an Audi RS7 trap 130 mph w an APR tune and some boltons at capitol raceway. Your results sound right... manual tranny made it even worse. I wounder how an F80 w dct FBO on e85 would compare in a roll race...

Lmao ya those things keep up with FBO GTRs, plus launching isn't in your favor. They're rockets.

I've seen that car around... It's a total monster... Messed around with him on the parkway in my cts-v coupe, injectors-upper pulley-intake-dyno tune, and we were pretty dead even... Out of a light I know he would get me

That's just an AWD car in its element. Lightly modified Subi/Evo would have done you the same way.

Launch, which isn't easy to get 100% right, makes all the difference.

What mode were you on?

You weren't running on your winter tires, were you?

Good god😨 thanks for saving me from racing one of these.

I just dumped my RS7 (tuned via GIAC) after about a year of ownership; even stock the thing was pulling repeat mid to low 3 second 0-60 runs. AWD is launching for dummies and a 560 AWD hp beast is quite fun in those situations. Once I tuned it, the car took over even in the rollers. The Quattro system and the ZF tranny do suck up the power efficiency to the ground in moving runs but the tune brings that car up to another level. Coming from an F10 M5 and F13 M6, the tuned RS7 was a game changer from speeds of 30-150. The best was launching that car in the rain and just brutalizing cars- zero wheel spin.

My old beast:

and why did you get rid of it?

rs7 & e63 AMG s are both crazy with their AWD and monster power. I wonder when the m5/6 will start offering/mandating AWD ..

no contest? duh! haha. definitely that car's strongest point, but it is such an incredibly strong point.

I wonder what it would take to humble that car? probably one of those 2000hp roll-race machines.. that should do it!!

This what ive been saying in the other thread. In real world on the streets, high power rwd dont really work out. I guarantee you even a apr tuned golf r (makin around 350whp) will embarrass most M4 stop light to stop light. Unpreped street surface and shitty launch control do not work. Its not as simple as "m4 traps xxx mph in 1/4 times ive read on forums or seen on youtube"

I'v been beating this issue for months around here as well, but the fanbois on this forum will never admit that their beloved M4 (and a certain M6 owner ) is somehow lacking in traction in real world application.

I know that and it's no big deal - I'm not a stoplight racer, nor do I abuse my clutch. Even my launch here was a slight bog, then full power down, then the rear stepped out and MDM intervened, AND THEN it hooked up

Here's the thing for me and street racing: I try not to be excessively stupid. I know the f8x can out pull other ~350-400whp cars from 30-100mph - but why the F would I want to see if I could start gaining on a car above 50-60mph on the street?

I strongly dislike 0-60 as a measure of speed or power. But it truly is an fair measure of what I'm willing to do at a stoplight or on the street - because I'm simply not willing to go above ~75-80 on almost any street surface and I'm just there to have fun and enjoy seeing me won some and lose some. I'll have fun with honda civics if they seem like they are just having fun too. And I'll have fun letting a guy in a ~700whp rs7 show-off next to me and enjoy seeing how ridiculously fast his car is next to mine.

There's always people who will be faster. It's about enjoying being faster than some and seeing fast cars next to yours

No one is debating your logic from a stand still. What most people challenge you on is the rolling start runs where traction isn't an issue. Other than teenagers, who engages in stop light races on public streets anyway?

Yes, the M4 has traction issues from a dig. No surprise. It does not have those same issues from a rolling start. That is, it would have no issue dealing with an RS5 from a 25mph pull. None. No contest. From a standing start, yes the RS5 would get a jump due to traction and it would take the M a bit to pull it in and pass it... but it would because it is a much faster car.

Real world is rarely stand still starts IMO... it's normally someone pulling up next to you on the highway and, in that case, traction isn't a concern. Having said that, any street racing is stupid so this is all academic IMO.

take that RS7 to a track and the stock M3/4 will run faster lap times no question.

dunno why everyone are so fixated on penis contests (aka straight line) drag races, where money=horsepower and/or grip. i will take courses of driver skill and test of the superior overall package as a definitive measure.
