Dct Transmission Malfuction- Help!!!

Help!

I have a 2010 e93 DCT and today I went for an easy cruise to do some shopping and when I came from inside the store my car said "transmission malfunction" upon start up. It also said that It was able to be driven but it would go into any gear from park. I turned it off and restarted it about a half dozen times and nothing changed. THEN I called AAA to prepare to have it towed to the shop but then I tried to start it once more and it started perfectly normal. I was able to drive it multiple times today since this with no problem. The car has 67K on it and has been rock solid since I got it 15k miles ago. Has anybody had this issue before? Is it just a computer glitch? Do I need a software update?

Thanks!

You'll need to pull any codes if possible.
If you have warranty you can go to the dealer and have it checked out.
It is hard to say what the problem is without some direction

I would guess it's low on fluid. Check the DCT sump area for a leak (under the card board cover)

Im thinking that it may be a software issue because the car runs buttery smooth. It always has... Also after it eventually decided to work its been smooth since which leads me to believe that it isnt mechanical but more so electrical.

OP have you had any work done recently to your vehicle? Also does your vehicle have any coding/tune work done?

No coding or tunes and no recent work done aside from putting on my aftermarket wheels and tires on Friday

I see it may be a good idea to take it into your nearest BMW service center, that particular malfunction may pertain to several different possibilities and no OBD2 scanner will provide accurate assistance at that point.

Can the dealer tell if a dct tune was performed on the car?

Really depends on the tune/tuner... In most cases no we cannot detect such levels of software, and in MOST cases yes we can...

The active threads do not have resolutions that were due to updating the software. Keep in mind that the DCT software has not changed a lot. Sure there is the Euro DCT software but that is not a US released software nor was it "updated" to fix issues.

I tell this to our machining team at work, that the "program" is usually the last thing to look at since the program is hard coded and does not create variables. All of the engine and transmission inputs and outputs are variables and should be ruled out first before we just start right at the program.

How many engine threads are posted where users say to go update their DME program vs replacing O2's, sensors etc.?

I can agree that there may be an ELECTRICAL issue but not a SOFTWARE issue.
