How much can I expect to pay for an alarm?

Hi

Just bought a 3.0si coupe and I realize now that it has no alarm. They are kind of a waste, but the car is so beautiful I think I want some peace of mind. The finance guy quoted me a price, but I don't ever go for anything at that moment. I did some checking and the factory alarm parts seem to be pretty cheap, like a 100 bucks or so if I read it right. How much should I try and negotiate for the alarm and install at the dealer? I forget what the asking price was.

I think the labor is what is going to kill you. I haven't heard of anyone getting a discount on it.

i read somewhere that Z4M are eqipped with factory alarm. You just need to get it activated from the dealer.

Actually I've been doing some fact finding and it's pre-wired for an alarm but has no alarm. It does have the ability to have the flashing red light activated, thus simulating the alarm.

I think standard labor for installing the alarm is 2 hours, though the average person seems to be able to do it at home in about an hour.

No no...it comes "prewired" for an alarm. So, all that needs to happen is you buy the OEM box (circa $500) from the dealer and have them install it. Or you can hope that the clown nose is enough.

Or go the extreme route and have an aftermarket alarm installed with every sensor imagineable so you'd be notified in a heartbeat if anyone so much as nicked your car.

Hell they wouldn't even need to touch it! If they breath on your car you could know about it

It gets really annoying though, had it on my last car.
