Do you recommend buying E82?
Hello!
I never owned an E82 Coupe before, although I had an E87 before moving to US and I liked it alot I'm planning to buy a small coupe... Do you recommend buying a Certified PreOwned 128i? or just go for the 2 Series? I found many, under 30k mileage and equipped well.... I like the 2 Series a lot, but still I can a great price on 128i with the engine that I prefer! the non-turbo one What do you think?

Go for the 128i, it is a great car and a lot of fun for a bargain of a price.
I have the coupe and my parental units have the cabriolet (AT) and we look forward to driving everyday. Why do you like the 2? I'd ask you to close your eyes and count to three and when you open them which car between the two do you see walking up to?

I mean the 1 series looks better but I mean the 2 is a newer car although more expensive. But if you really like the n52 motor then by all means get the 1.

If you want the 128i, get it with a 6speed, Msport, Premium.

If I were in your situation I would order a barebones manual 228 without a sunroof and only the performance options you want. Now that I've had a turbo car for the last five years I don't know that I could go back.

You should ask this question on the two series forum, those guys are ridiculous for the most part. I dont know how many times I've seen phrases like " my M235 is so much better then an e34 m5 ect...".

Do I recommend an e82?
Yes, e82 are excellent cars. I have had three 135s, it's a car that I keep coming back to for its relative simplicity, build quality, & speed. A 135 offers nearly M3 e92 performance for a lot less money. Now that they are no longer available, CPO units are an excellent value IMO.
I was going to order a 228 M sport etc, until I test drove one. I was not impressed by the moan (or thrum) the motor made when prodded, it also did not have the torque I expected under 4k RPM. In addition the interior is a cheap version of the current 3 series, and the exterior is also very bland. The one series is however instantly recognizable, with a simple yet robust interior and a general feeling that it's overbuilt unlike the 2 series and current 3 series. I get it the new models are more efficient, but they no longer feel German bombproof

I'd definitely recommend an E82... Just be sure to buy a battery tender along with it.

My 135 is my daily driver and will be until all the duct tape and superglue in the world will no longer hold it together! More to the OP's point: I had a 2012 135 on lease. Lease was ending, so I looked at the 235. Wasn't impressed. I didn't hate it like some people here do, but I didn't consider it an upgrade - more like a lateral transfer. So I could have spent $50k on a new 235, or I could (and did) find a lovely CPO 2012 with all my specs and low mileage (23k), plus a lot of additional bells and whistles (like the previous owner's port-installed BMWPE) for $30k. You ask me, that's a no-brainer.

The E82 is a wonderful chassis, I definitely prefer it.
As far as N52/1 vs. N20/6, I disagree. The N20 makes more torque everywhere, peak power, and is more reliable. The 6 cylinder sounds better though. |

It can happen.
It can happen. Car shopping at the end of the month and found the perfect used "1". I have been driving it daily since for two years this coming week.
Get a 128i 6sp and add the BMWP exhaust. Wonderful combination. |

I absolutely recommend buying an e82. I would just make sure it is the right one. A low mileage 128i 6 speed would be an awesome buy. If you can find the rare 128i 6 speed without a sunroof you will be a lucky man.
