Car turns over doesn't start
The car ran fine the night before and this morning it also started fine. I drive 500ft, the car sputtered once and died. I tried to start it a few times and nothing, but sometimes I get this on the cluster, but I can't scroll through anything:
It felt like the fuel pump or relay died but I don't know how to verify. The car is out of warranty but I think the fuel pump is still covered. Bad thing is the dealership can't look at the car for two weeks. I'd like to find the cause before that. Please let me know if you guys can help. Thanks |

Spark plugs were done at 60k miles and the car also had the oil changed and the VANOS recall in December. One thing I didn't hear when I unlock the car is the fuel pump priming. Is there an easy way to test the fuel pump?
I swear things started going wrong as soon as it hit 75k miles. Thanks |

Use a voltage meter to check if there's juice coming from the pump. Should be around 14 volts or 12.5 on the low side. Not to sure if those are the right numbers so someone correct me if I'm wrong. Check the relay as well

Isn't it ironic that this almost exact thing happened to me like 10 min ago after reading this? Now I'm trying to figure out if it's my starter or fuel pump. :

Sounds like fuel pump. If it sputters but doesn't catch, it's not getting any fuel. Your fuel pump may be going out or your fuel filter is clogged. There's also a possibility of injector problems, but that's not too likely. If you don't hear the pump when you first unlock/open the car, it could also just be the relay for the pump. Best thing you can do to be sure is to read the codes either by using the switch on the stalk to get to the "CHECK" function, then holding the button in until it reads out a "CC-ID xxx" code or using something like BMWhat or other coding/code-reading tool.
