Steering wheel heater +. . . Why no shift heater!
So this isn't really that serious of a thread, but I've come to really like my steering wheel heater and I thought it would be a pretty stupid gimmick I'd never use. Maybe its the particularly cold blast here in the north east, or maybe its just me getting old (I just turned 28 in November, ugh).
Anyways, this morning was cold and snowy, as per usual this time of year in NY, and about 3 minutes after I left my house I really started appreciating the steering wheel heater as the air coming out of the vents was still notably cold. Then I went to shift from 2nd to 3rd and I noticed how cold my shifter was. . . I immediately thought since BMW went to all the time and expense of hard wiring electrical connections to light up the shifter they really should have come full circle and implemented a little shifter heater just like the steering wheel's. It might sound silly, but I think it would be a really cool feature and I don't think any other cars have it. It could be connected to the steering wheel heat button directly, as I don't think there would ever be a time you'd want one and not the other. I'd welcome similar minded comments, and if anyone wants to hire me on a consulting basis to pass on mostly useless ideas that pop into my head while driving PM me for my hourly rates.

Pretty nice idea. I had never thought of that and I bet BMW never thought of that either. Or maybe they did and they have it as an option on the M5/6 and 7 series, but not on series below 5, IDK. When I see the BMW genius at the dealership I'll be sure to mention you're available.
Cheers.

I totally agree this would be a great feature. In my old 323i, I had the BMW aluminum shifter, and it was pretty freakin' cold some mornings....
